Far Cry 5 in February

Ubisoft officially announces Far Cry 5, saying the first-person shooter sequel is "coming to America's heartland" on February 27, 2018. This confirms the recently revealed setting of Hope, Montana, a fictional county in the allegedly actual state, where you will take on a group of armed cultists. There's more on this in the UbiBlog, where they offer information along with this interview trailer with details on the game and how difficult it may be to survive the game's environment. They also have an official announce trailer that sets the tone for the game. They also feature some trailers introducing some of the characters you will team up with your resistance against the cult: Mary May, Pastor Jerome Jeffries, and Nick Rye. Here's the announcement:
Today, Ubisoft® announced that gamers will experience the chaos, unpredictability and ferociousness of the Far Cry franchise with Far Cry® 5 on PlayStation®4 Pro computer entertainment system, PlayStation®4, the Xbox One family of devices, including Project Scorpio, and Windows PC. Set in America for the first time, in Montana, players will have total freedom to navigate this serene-looking yet deeply twisted world solo or entirely in two-player co-op as they fight for survival and freedom, when the game releases on February 27, 2018. Development for Far Cry 5 is being led by Ubisoft Montreal*.

As the new junior deputy of fictional Hope County, Montana, players will find that their arrival accelerates a years-long silent coup by a fanatical doomsday cult, the Project at Eden's Gate, igniting a violent takeover of the county. Caught off guard and drawn into a power struggle, players must disrupt the carefully laid plans of the Project at Eden’s Gate and fan the fires of resistance to help liberate the Hope County community and themselves.

Under siege and cut off from the rest of the world, players will join forces with residents of Hope County and form the Resistance. The fight against the cult will take players to unique locations throughout Hope County that provide different gameplay experiences. During their journey, players can fly planes to engage cult forces in aerial dogfights across Big Sky Country. While tracking down cult members and gathering resources for survival across farmland, forests, mountains and rivers, players can get behind the wheel of iconic American muscle cars, big rigs, ATVs and boats. Vehicles also provide refuge when under attack by animals or as a way to quickly escape when things don’t go as planned.

To take down the cult, players will need to utilize any and all weapons at their disposal, including ranged weapons such as guns and grenades and melee weapons like a sledgehammer or baseball bat. Additionally, players can recruit Guns for Hire from a large cast of characters, or even Fangs for Hire, specialized animals like bears and cougars to complement players’ playstyles whether they’re going in stealthily or forcefully. How players approach each situation and the chaos they create in Far Cry 5 is up to them. Far Cry 5 will also see the return of the map editor, giving players the opportunity to create and play an infinite amount of new playgrounds. The map editor will include new features that add a new dimension to the content created by fans, with more details coming soon.

Additionally, players on PlayStation®4 system will get free content with purchase of the game at launch. Players on Xbox and PC systems will have the same content available through the Ubisoft Club.

Is there ever a big name entertainment product that features rural America in a good light? Between this, RE7, and a handful of Hulu and Netflix originals (not to mention the trailer park trash in GTA5) it seems like stereotyping.

BTW I'm pretty sure a good number of Montanaians will voice their displeasure, but it's Montana. Population: 1.033 million (2015). Well played UbiSoft. Well played.

I don't see this setting, under the FarCry formula, as being a good idea. Game looks like it would be cool as a survival type game though.

Seriously, though, Montana just elected a Congressman that believes Noah lived to be 600. Not only does he believe this, he uses it as proof that Americans shouldn't retire. We should work till we die.

I know I said it already, but upon learning this yesterday my mind literally broke.

If you're offended by this, you're ___. I think you can complete my sentence. To try to direct the discussion back to what this site is for, the game, I gotta say, this setting looks great and fits perfectly with the US and I like the characters so far! I hope it strays away at least a bit from the formula though, because there's no difference between 3 and 4 and I'm just not interested in more of that.

What a load of crap. Projecting what Muslims do daily around the world on Christians. Just yesterday Muslims in Egypt mowed down 24 Coptic Christians.

But hey its easier to smear Christians since you know they aren't violent, right?

Since when aren't Christians violent? I mean, first off, it's like no one remembers the IRA. Second off, Branch Davidians. Third off, every single abortion clinic bombing. Lastly, Cliven Bundy and his band of morons.

But I'm sorry you feel so persecuted in a country you very literally run, to the point that Montana last night elected a Congressman that believes retirement is bad because it isn't mentioned in the Bible - Noah lived to 600 (is there a dumber belief?) without retiring, so Americans shouldn't expect to be able to.

Yeah, though, so persecuted.

Oh yeah you mean the same branch dividians burned alive for doing nothing by your fellow leftists?

So in your sick deluded mind a couple of bombings.. indeed bad, but done by a lone loon type... are the same as planned parenthood evil wackos being caught on camera joking about baby eyes rolling into their laps while selling body parts.

You people are completely Fucked up in the head. Its sickening.

and you are full of crap about the guy that was just elected.

Dear lord you're a delicate one.

1) No one is saying all Christians are like this. If you watch that video and think "HEY! I'm a Christian and so are my friends and we don't do this!" then yes, you're right, you don't! This is about religious extremists! Though maybe there's a valuable lesson there for you. Probably over your head, but maybe not

2) The video you're citing was fake. Did you even watch it? Man, so you're anti-abortion, trying to say abortion is a bigger problem than abortion clinic bombings, and using a video so bad that the people who made it were charged with 15 felonies as your proof

3) Yes, a couple of "lone loon" types. WHO DO YOU THINK YOU'RE FIGHTING IN THIS GAME? A lone loon type who managed to build a cult. Not all Christians!

Again, never ceases to amaze me how those quickest to call others delicate, special, triggered snowflakes are the most delicate people out there.

Which period? As far as I know there really wasn't a period of stagnation that you're describing, other than with regards to Rome itself and the Eastern Roman Empire, which the Muslims took over. Western Europe, not so much, the conquest of Spain notwithstanding. There's a period where trade dropped off heavily, but that was a direct effect of Rome's fall.

Can you link a history page that describes what you're talking about?

That's the church, not the religion -- you were talking about the religion. In the Sermon on the Mount Jesus tells everyone not to call other people names, to love your enemies and to turn the other cheek. As far as behavioral modification goes I don't see that things would be much different if the Bible said instead that he told people that they had to protect what was theirs and to fight anyone who tries to take it. Once you've built up your team whatever you do to support it is separate from the ethics it actually talks about.

LOL. Some of you are some silly folks. There are a LOT of radical nutbags in most major religions. Muslim extremists, Jewish zionists, Christian fundamentalists, etc.... They are all crazy. They are all a danger to a world that wants to move forward.

Just because Christians are the majority in your home country and absolutely love to gloss over their transgressions doesn't mean they don't have sects that the world would be better without. Who cares that a video game is playing them for the villian?

Where was the rights protests on Obama? Hardly a trickle. Because it is all talk and no action. Oh my fucking god higher being (possibly)! Can we have one damn post about American religion and politics without it devolving into a chaos of finger pointing and name calling?! Here, I'll settle this right now - SOME PEOPLE ARE ASSHOLES

Bam! Done! Nothing is going to change the past. NOTHING. What any one person or group of people did, they did. Admitting it or deflecting it isn't going to change the reality. The only thing we can change, and what should be the most important right now, is the present and the future. Human nature is violent. This is a fact. There are violent assholes out there right now. Is everyone an asshole? No. They have the potential to be, but that doesn't make them so.

Is religion the cause of their assholiness? (ha!) Maybe. Doesn't matter, I feel. Human behavior trumps (dammit!) whatever their views are. I mean, does it really matter? Muslim (Islamic) or Christian, Hindu or Buddhist, we're still human. Whether setting yourself on fire, blowing up a bus in the Gaza Strip, or throwing another human being off a tall being for allegedly being 'gay', the actual reason is irrelevant. Your behavior is point.

Once we get that through everyone's heads, we step beyond this madness.

If the USA was "the most Christian country in the world", then there would not be no murder at all. Christians are supposed to NOT defend themselves, but to turn the other cheek when being slapped in the face. I know, I know, not very healthy and not typical human behavior. But love and peace are the very center of Christian religion. Therefore, just like socialism, the Christian religion has many great ideas and ideals but is far, far away from the real world and the typcal ape behavior of homo sapiens.

Ah, whatever. As a very lovely and intelligent girl tells me very often: "Enjoy the sunshine, adore every flower - this makes life worth living." Good approach - concentrate on the small things and forget about our world being driven by greed and the lust for power. It works until shit hits the fan right infront of you.
