Huh, no love for FC4, eh? While I can probably safely get away with saying nearly everyone loved Blood Dragon, including myself, (how can you NOT like it? It has MichaelBieneBeinnBeanBeenBiehn! And he didn't die this time...unless you suck) but I really liked FC4. The music, the setting, the atmosphere, the story was even ok. I loved Pagan Minn, though his behavior off-screen in voice-overs vs in cutscenes was sometimes jarringly different. Like they did them two months apart without knowledge of each other. The ending, if you don't kill him, 'The country is yours...but I'm keeping the helicopter' just had me sitting laughing as he went off for the last time, debating whether I should shoot him down in the last second just for more laughs. 'The fuck you are!'.

While the FC3 weed mission and accompanying rap reggae was pretty memorable (I have it on my mp3 player in the car and relive it each time I listen to it), the music was more subtle and emotional in FC4, at least to me. They were more concerned with eliciting an emotional response more than just run and gun. That's evident at the end when you finally find out what Lakshmana really is. The music, the environment...after all you'd been through...it was almost as good as going through Dying Light (with the exception of The Following's absolutely hideous and awful ending that I refuse to except).
I haven't played much of The Witcher 3, to be honest, but I plan to. Maybe it'll become a new fav. But for now, FC4 and Dying Light sit there and it'll take quite a bit to move them. Maybe FC5 will be as successful. One can only hope.

I'm excited for the controversy of the new setting. While I'd wager they're going after everyone to some extent, I'd also wager the bulk of this is aimed at hyperconservative militias. I mean, it's Wyoming, it factually has hyperconservative militia groups, but doesn't factually have a significant amount of hyperliberals. Would not be surprised to have the main character be one, perhaps native American, or if they didn't learn their lesson from FC3, an obnoxious privileged white college kid that everyone finds at least slightly off-putting and Ubi later claims was a parody that went over our heads.
Yeah everyone hates the FC3 story. I think it might have been the best. I don't think I'm super smart or anything, and maybe I am reading into it, but I thought the douchebags in FC3 were awesome. The heroes journey was all about that kid realising what a douchebag he and his friends are and how he was starting to enjoy the murder (Which seemed a pretty cool mirror to games in general, the same theme drove Hotline Miami).
I thought it was fine, frankly. The guy was douchey, but it wasn't at all a game-breaker for me. Lots of my friends are douchey, so...

I like the new theme. The jungle themes just didn't do it for me in the previous games.
Funny, that was their entire appeal. Remember how fresh and new the original Far Cry was because it was finally brightly colored, non-urban, wide opened FPS gaming? I didn't much care for FC3 but I did like the setting.

I'm excited for this new setting! If anything, Ubisoft is the best in creating convincing environments. Sadly I'm beginning to hate their default formula more and more.
Still, this game will probably be worth 30 bucks for the mood alone. Here's to hoping they feel like trying something new gameplay wise.
One can always hope.

I mean, you've been following games a long while. Or any other media. Announce trailers never have substance. Ever. They're fluff. They're so far out they're just setting a mood and nothing more.
It's exactly the same for movies.
