Sorry to tell you but almost all the big AAA games came with dedicated servers in the 90's, mmo's are just RPG's with the dedicated server exe's not released so they can charge subscription fee's.

MMO's were the original scam game. Quake and UT have dedicated servers built into the exe's, so you just host from within the program. Dedicated server meant - user hostable servers. Note that World of warcraft and ultima online have private servers, so the whole "MMO's can only be done by special computers at corporate HQ" is 100% false.

There's no reason mmo servers can't be run by players but then the mmo scam money wouldn't come their way. MMO's could be 100% released as totally one purchase software like any other regular game in the 90's. It's mass tech illiteracy and human irrationality that keeps the mmo model afloat.

I suspect that's it exactly. The marketshare for CoD on PC is fairly insignificant compared to console.

When I was in college we had an executive from EA give a seminar. This was way back when they just stopped publishing their sports titles on PC (waaaaaaaaaaaay back). Someone asked him why and he said that their sports games on PC weren't even breaking even. All of the money they took in was from consoles.

I remember reading an article a few years back, the game was Black Ops 3 and they only looked at physical sales, but the PC marketshare was 1% of the total sales. Granted steam wasn't included, but neither were the Xbox and PS online stores either.

Dedicated servers mean a server that isn't one of the players ie. P2P. I don't know how they could do Destiny 2's MMO'y features without a dedicated server in some capacity. ESPECIALLY for the 6v6 PvP modes. That shit on p2p is just utterly shameful if true. Although it is Activision, they pulled that shit with so man CoD games I lost track. So there's precedent.

I think the only game Bungie ported themselves was Oni and the PC port was actually considered the best version if I am not mistaken even though the game itself was simply "okay" at best. Halo was done by Gearbox and Halo 2/Wars by Microsoft.

I mean, if someone really wants to find something to complain about in regards to Bungie's quality on PC I guess you could reach back to Myth 2 with the legendary uninstall bug but that's about it...

Speaking of that, Prey is a good game. My Bioshock nostalgia feelers were strong that Sunday morning and I went and paid the full price for it (something I try to avoid). And I'm glad I did, been enjoying the hell out of it.

On one hand, the two Halo games we got were...not suited for PC to begin with, and Halo 2 required an OS no one wanted.

So I'm willing to bet that's why they're claiming it'll be good to go from day 1....Blizzard is probably demanding it. I wouldn't be surprised if the multiplayer is PC only, because while the co-op wouldn't matter, the versus mode would be packed with console players claiming pc users are cheating.

Yep it does. Blue even posted a news story about Blizzard warning players not to create servers for the sole purpose of using them to level up. People were setting up games where you just login, join a match, and go do something else. When the match timer ends you get XP for doing NOTHING.
