Flight Sim World Early Access

Steam now offers early access to Flight Sim World, a new flight simulator with an emphasis on realism. You can judge whether this flies in this trailer with a brief look at the game. Here's the pitch:

Flight Sim World®, developed by specialist simulation developer and publisher Dovetail Games, has now been released into Steam’s Early Access program.

Take control of your exquisitely modeled aircraft from take-off to landing through a variety of dramatic weather conditions. Either fly with friends in multiplayer mode, or fly solo from over 24,000 airports worldwide.

If you are new to flight simulation, learn the basics while working towards obtaining your in-sim qualifications in our true-to-life flight lessons. For those who demand more of a challenge, a series of complex missions will push your skills to their limit.

As part of Flight Sim World’s release into Steam’s Early Access program, regular updates will be delivered over the coming months - including a weather system upgrade, flight planner expansions, and enhanced multiplayer functionality. Additionally, the Flight Sim World team will be collating and acting on player feedback for the complete duration of the early access period.

“The flight sim community is a fountain of experience and expertise and early access is our way of drawing upon that knowledge to make Flight Sim World the best it can be,” said executive producer Stephen Hood. “With this release, we are forging a brighter and more vibrant future for flight simulation.”

Yeppers. To a very large extent. X-Plane 11 still suffers from substantial weaknesses but will hopefully improve with time just as FSW here. Simmers (civi simmers at least) have mighty little choice.
It's either X-Plane or ancient FSX-SE or P3D (which isn't even legal to use for most people) or... yes, FSW now. That's it. And they all come with long lists of pros and cons.

The add-on market for FSX is still asking crazy prices (the default price for just about every larger add-on is $50) and there is often harsh DRM on these programs, too, while sales are very rare and only happen around the holiday season - if that (e.g. good luck waiting for a sale on Professional Flight Planner, it just doesn't budge at all).
So, yeah, the simmers are in fact desperate enough to take it up the a from all sides because there is so little choice.

It's FSX. Literally. Dovetail bought the rights to FSX years ago and this is what they have after 'tweaking' it for two years. Impressed? Go play X-Plane 11. This is garbage. No way to import mods, doesn't look like they'll put one in and most of all - Early Access on a 10 year old game?!? The fuck!?

They must think simmers are so desperate they'll take anything...and to an extent they're right but holy hot damn, is this obvious! They're gonna get to a reasonably running state and then DLC it out the ass like some cheap whore! Like I said, go play X-Plane 11...

Getting nasty in the negative reviews for this.

Using a steering wheel on a Burnout game is like using the Space Shuttle controls to fly a kite.

You've got to be cruel to be the right measure.
