16. Re: Morning Metaverse May 20, 2017, 20:07 Creston

Man, China looks at this UK plan and goes "Blessed Confucius, you motherfuckers are crazy!"

But of course, here's the ringer:

If elected, Theresa May will "take steps to protect the reliability and objectivity of information that is essential to our democracy" – and crack down on Facebook and Google to ensure that news companies get enough advertising money.

This is why she does it. Not to "keep people safe", but to line the pockets of those who write her big fat checks.

Theresa May should consult Chinese gov for such "Internet system". Their system is the best in the world for information control.

That UK article is the scariest thing. They're actually openly saying that they want to control what people say, think and look at... I guess it's true what they say about evil people not realizing they're evil.

Yes! How the people have been dociled. The same is coming to the rest of the world if we sit back. Socialism is evil disguised behind such 'government do good' rhetoric, preying on the good intentions of the ignorant.

This isn't socialism... this is authoritarianism, pretty much like Russia's post bolshevik counter-revolution 1918 when they abolished the cooperatives and centralized the decisional powers, destroying the distributed decisional powers wielded by the cooperatives, thus ending TRUE socialism in this part of the globe since then.

What you call socialism is the west propaganda spin during the cold war adorning state capitalism and centralized authoritarianism with the socialist tag after the USSR used it themselves to manipulate the pleb to side with them ( a move mirrored, ironically, by the nazi party/Hitler --- and Benito Mussolini, *see the quote of a book in photo down on the page* ) and which has been tainted ever since, with people still buying the cold war propaganda definition instead of going back to the roots of its real untainted definition.

The USSR and the nazi party were as socialist as North Korea is a "democratic republic", iows, not at all.

Russia's state capitalism and authoritarianism have nothing to do with the real definition of socialism, and Germany's nazism, highly authoritarian, centralized decisional powers, had nothing to do with socialism either, with same as your use of the tainted tag here upon this autoritarianism move.

Paradoxically for you, Socialism, the real definition of socialism, is much more libertarian than anything we have right now. I suggest you research it and stop falling for that trap.

Great post Simon Says!

LittleMe is one of those delusional social-Darwinist libertarian loons that thinks any and everything government is involved in is evil and "socialist", and social-democracy and socialism are the same thing. I always find it amusing that those types are the ones that seem to have no problem being hypocrites using all those things that government and taxpayers provide them while they bitch about how unfair and evil it all is.

Exactly. Littleme, you are the dupe. They fooled you. They have you. They own you.

Its a bit like plausible deniability - they need the opposition to be stupid and ignorant and ineffective so they can keep the illusion of "freedom" alive without having to make it actually real - or anything that is actually a threat to the entrenched establishment.

Hes what I meant in my last post, haha

Looks like "V for Vendetta" is coming a bit early. As usual, the scary "terrorists" and "pedophiles" are used as excuses to implement fascist government authority over law-abiding citizens. I like that they lump "terrorism" in with "porn" as things that both cause "harm".

So, who actually would vote for such a thing? "Hey I want the internet to become just another platform for me to tell you what *I* want you to hear, and absolutely nothing else."

People who would profit from it, and thus the government via lobbying. I mean, I don't know, I think it's insane, but laws pass and projects are started without the public vote. Even when the public manifests its discontent it's often ignored. Edit: I don't know about the UK, but it's like that in the US and Canada, so I expect UK would be like that too.

When Republicans speak of helping poor people, always look for the rotten lining that enriches themselves and/or their paymasters:

"I want Free Basics for the USA," (Future FCC Commish Rosalyn) Layton said. "There is a subset of people who are truly poor… who need access to basic kinds of services, and I don’t think they should have to pay for them. If companies want to pay for them to do it and put advertising behind it, I don’t see the harm."

Also:

It's limited to those sites that are on the platform—it doesn't provide access to the whole Internet.

Lastly this incredible condescending bullshit by Layton:

"To be sure, Ars Technica readers are savvy and well-educated people who know how to play complex online games with advanced devices," she said. "First-time Internet users don’t."

Nice, Truly Government run Internet. Protecting people from harming themselves.

I doubt there idea would fly if they were staying in the EU. But since they think they can stand on there own, they get to make crazy unchecked laws like that. With out EU ground rules to keep them in check. Hope that Dumb idea of Brexit was worth it, Brits! Cause your future is going to be more of that.
