Sure I'd turn over the keys to a third party if they were contractually liable for any and all damages. In fact it's probably a much better move for most companies to centralize security with a specialist firm.

I have a customer I found out a couple weeks back is using a WMS system where their emails went through the WMS system and they knew that the WMS company looked at their emails. I couldn't and wouldn't ever live with that. They don't like it either, but are sort of stuck. I'm not sure how anyone ever gives that up to another company.

There was one big company that was associated with this in the news often, I can say it wasn't as bad as you would think it was with all the news. When you have 10,000's of thousands of users, there are systems in place to enforce, but still some don't update and slip through the cracks. Will things be tightened up? Probably. Do they force dropping them of the network if not updated in short period of time? Probably.

You've got to be cruel to be kind...in the right measure.
