Ubisoft Financials Reveal Far Cry 5 and The Crew 2

Ubisoft's Full-Year 2016-17 Sales and Earnings figures are online, reporting a third consecutive year-on-year rise in non-IFRS operating margin, record-high digital revenue and back-catalog sales, saying this reflects "the Group's transformation toward a more profitable and recurring model." This mentions four games from them are planned for the coming year, saying to expect the "exciting returns" of Assassin's Creed, Far Cry, The Crew, and South Park. The Far Cry Twitter account confirms the Far Cry game will be Far Cry 5, offering a Far Cry 5 logo along with a rhetorical question about the next installment in Ubisoft's shooter series: "Are you ready for a hefty dose of new Far Cry adventures?" The only other thing they offer for now is a link to subscribe to the Ubisoft YouTube Channel for future updates. And Polygon notes the Ubisoft Forums have a logo for The Crew 2, saying, "Beyond the road... Stay with us for more high octane thrills!" Here's more on their from the earnings announcement:
Today, Ubisoft released its sales and earnings figures for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2017.

Yves Guillemot, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer, stated: "The execution of our strategic plan fully paid off in 2016-17, with further very strong growth for the digital segment - which now accounts for 50% of total sales - and an ever-more recurring profile."

"With 44 million unique registered players, the size of the Tom Clancy community has increased by almost 150% in less than 18 months. This impressive performance for a brand created almost 20 years ago clearly illustrates the strong popularity of Ghost Recon Wildlands, Rainbow Six Siege and The Division. Our Live titles continue to beat records for player engagement and have seen a sharp rise in player recurring investment. Our results for 2016-17 demonstrate the success of our new model, with record high operating income and outperforming the target announced a year ago, and operating margin up for the third consecutive year."

"Over the last three fiscal years, Ubisoft has - with remarkable success - created numerous new brands and rebooted Rainbow Six and Ghost Recon. These successes have strengthened our visibility for the coming two fiscal years, with a line-up of releases principally comprised of established franchises. In 2017-18 we will see the exciting returns of Assassin's Creed, Far Cry, The Crew and South Park.

FC2 was amazing, a definite standout when it came to narrative world-building. The plot left an impact on me to play it all the way through, getting to figure out for yourself what the fuck is actually going on without hand-holding and excessive exposition was masterfully done.

FC1 was also amazing, I'd play a proper remake of that, that deagle felt better than any pistol in any game. And yes! the mutants! such a twist. I remember playing the shareware demo of the first map over and over and over and over, just unable to wait to get my Ati 9800 Pro to kick the full game's ass. FC1 did all of the shit that Doom 3 and HL2 where doing graphically, except FC1 came out before with of them, truly ahead of it's time.

Wait, wait, wait...did we both exist in the same timeline?! FC2 was boring AF! Not to mention cheap - you clear an outpost and go back five minutes later and all the bad guys are all back where they were when you cleared them out! Like it never happened! Then why TF am I doing this?! Plus they seem to have magical vision and are crackshots with rusty old shit weapons. They can bean me from 500 yards but when I finally kill them and get their gun, it's a jammed POS that fires twice before breaking! No, FC2 was not a great game. Either I got a beta copy or you're remembering a different game entirely.

As for the original...~eh. I wouldn't put it in the same league as Doom3 or even HL2. The shooting is all over the place, the plot is typical nonsensical and forgettable and the mutants...ugh. Seriously, what alternate early 2000's are you from? Did they have 9/11 and George W.? If not, can I come over?

How about something original like a remake of FC1.

Ha! I can't tell if this is sarcasm, or if you actually think a remake would be original.

That said, I'd love someone more competent to take on FC1. Make it less ridiculous, and towards the end, far, far, far less cheap.

Haha nicely put. What bothers me about Ubisoft is just how little they think of their audience. The same 5-6 missions repeated 100 times, packaged up as gameplay. I can't believe people were defending the Far Cry 4 story, it was an unbelievable pile of shit. Pagan Min's onscreen and offscreen characterizations are completely different, they throw insulting "moral choices" at you with no real narrative purpose and the supporting characters are the usual bunch of forgettable "do our fetch quest" types with one aspect personalities. I doubt most people could even remember a single name of the bunch without a Google search. The best part of Far Cry 4 is that you can end it in the first 15 minutes.

I'm so fucking bored of Far Cry and the mindless Ubisoft open world formula. You're going to get map bombed with icons and activities, most of which will be repetitive bullshit. The same boring gameplay with zero challenge and a shitty story that overstays its welcome. Ubisoft has made a factory operation out of generic open world games, they're the fucking acme widget makers of this industry.

I hope Activision manages that buyout and just runs it into the ground because at least in death perhaps some developers will start smaller studios and do something original again. Oh and Ghost Recon: Wildlands is not popular in the slightest, look at the metrics hes using. Active player count died a long time ago. It's a game with no soul or passion behind its creation, just guys ticking boxes off.

After the good coop of Far Cry: Wildlands I think I'm good for open world whatever. I'd be interested in The Crew 2 if it has more track racing - like enough to make an interesting career out of. I'm not a fan of street racing or XXXtreme sports.

FarCry 1 and 3 were nice. 2 was crap, 4 had a crappy setting IMO. I just couldnt get into it. Didnt even bother with primal, because that setting really isnt my deal either.
So a new one with tropical setting would be awesome.

Except for FarCry 2, I enjoyed the FarCry games a lot. Yes, they are grindfests but the open world and the graphics are outweighing the grinding imo. Also, if people praise total grindfests like Diablo 3, then they cannot hold grinding against FarCry games. In FarCry 4 I enjoyed the story quite a bit because you could not be just the white knight saving the world.
And FarCry: Primal was good because it tried to refresh the franchise and imo succeeded.

Farcry 1 is in my top 5 games of all time. Loved the multiplayer, the enemy AI, the stealth, the level design, the horror parts (yes, I liked the mutants. They added variety). It kinda felt like the first time I played Half-Life 1. FC2 is my second favorite Farcry game. While it was completely different from FC1, I liked the gun system, the game economy and the "wasteland" feeling of it. The second map was also mind blowing and both maps were really interesting to explore. FC3 was still good, but it was oversimplified, they broke the economy and it was kinda generic. 4 was basically a remake of 3, so, I liked that one even less (4's story is great though). Then you get Primal, which is the one I disliked the most. It was just bland and couldn't keep my attention. Didn't play FC Instincts, because console... Oh and Blood Dragon was good, but I found it repetitive and kinda boring in the end. I guess my ranking is: 1,2,3,4,BD,Primal. It doesn't bode well for FC5...

As for all the Crysis games, 1 and Warhead were good, but there's something lacking from them. I guess they're not enough of a "game". The levels are insanely beautiful though. Just a marvel to look at. Crysis 2 and 3 are complete garbage. Linear soulless consolized bore fest.

It'd certainly have to be very different.. GR:W (and R6 Siege, and For Honor) have really pissed me off with how they treat customers and players asking for minor changes/QOL/general quality... I'm extremely reluctant to get anything else Ubisoft. It's really just a business for them, no heart.

I guess I'm one of the few people who liked Far Cry Primal. It was a very different take on the formula and quite refreshing.

The Crew never really grabbed me. It did nothing better than Forza Horizon or the various NFS games over the years.

I really hope FC 5 is set in the old west like the rumors say.

For me, while I liked FC 2, 3 and 4 were the best for me. FC 1 was good, but I preferred every other one after it much more. Crytek and their crappy aliens....ugh. Same thing with Crysis. It was great until the aliens came.

I really liked Far Cry 4. It was funny in parts and had a nice story that you wanted to see the conclusion to. Not that you didn't know already since it was cliche`d up the ass but you wanted to see the details. At least I did. I especially liked Pagan Min. Everything about his performance and character was hilariously over the top...but not too much as to become a cartoon. FC3 was ok but dragged in the mid-late game and we all know why at this point - never kill off your most popular character half-way through the game! Some might call it 'edgy' or 'unique' or 'dark' to do so...I call it Bad Writing 101. And FC2? I've tried so many times to get into it. The early parts drag almost as bad as FC3's mid-late game and really, it's just not all that compelling. You search for diamonds, do missions and kill the same people over and over. I've gotten about 30% in and to this day have it still installed but I can't force myself to finish it. It just ends up being boring...

I haven't kept up on the Far Cry rumor mill and this is the first I've heard of the old west as a setting. Personally, if it were my choice? 'FC5: Super Blood Dragon Retribution', baby!!! Headbang

If these new Far Cry adventures are genuinely new, then yes.

As for the Crew 2, I got the Crew for free and wound up enjoying it a LOT more than I thought I would, so if they build an even cooler map, I can see myself sign up.
