[FASCINATING SIDE NOTE FROM HALL: "Off-topic, one sad story was this -- Wolfenstein actually had animating wall textures. From early on. The scene is this: we were making a cool FPS in a crazy short time. We had an outside artist helping on art, and the art wasn't turning out very good. A flickering torch wasn't well done. We parted ways. And then, WE FORGOT TO USE ANIMATING WALLS. At all. They could have really added to the atmosphere and been used for interesting things.... but, well, we had so much to do and simply forgot."]

The original "Castle Wolfenstein", a top down game on the Apple IIe, was responsible for my interest in Wolf 3D. I don't even know if the two games are related in any way other than name...but I do remember that at the time "young teen me" was super pumped to be down "in" the action instead of looking at it from the top down.

Ahh..the joy of running along side the walls pressing the space bar.
I often expected that moving block of wall to reverse then trap and kill me. That gameplay trap they didn't do, least not any Wolf3D that I played.
OMG this. Proper secrets. Even tallied at the end of the level right? Or did they only introduce that in Doom?
Is running down every single straight line in the map, hitting space on every single wall, really a "proper" secret?

Why did life seem so much better in the 90s?
- People strived to be informed and educated.
- Television shows and movies had intelligent dialogue.
- Jobs were plenty, there wasn't enough people to fill positions.
- Companies believed in customer satisfaction.
- Life felt prosperous, hopeful, and free spirited.
For example: Back in those days, I used to fly NY (Upper East Manhattan) on a regular basis. I remember voluntarily giving up my plane seat, a couple of times - due to overbooking - but only because I was offered first class on the next flight and given a $500+ credit.
