Actually it is updated and pretty much finalized. Almost everything is optional and you should really spend 10 or 15 minutes reading and setting up for your preference. You can even play the Main Story in 4 person Coop.

I'm not sure what you're talking about. I don't think MW2 got textures until the Titanium edition. But if you go on YouTube you can easily see videos showing it with untextured polygons and sprite explosions.

The old demo is the one with the Marauder and the Puma/Adder, right?

Yes, the first few versions of MW2 after release had untextured polys but the original was even more sparse and generally less...polished. (Maybe because it was still considered 'beta'? I dunno)

As for the demo, I'm not sure which Mechs were featured, I'll have to dig out the demo disk and try to image it and maybe get it running in Dosbox, if possible. I can't find anything on the Net about it, though I know there were ads in various mags at the time for the original design, so maybe I can dig up one of them. My 'Net connection is really shitty so bringing up something in Google Images takes forever. I'll find it eventually...

My idea of Classic and their idea of "Classic" are 2 very different things. Their font is "classic" their game selection is not.

damn i was about to go all in if steam finally got "interstate 76 nitro pack".

If there's any game that deserves a remake/remaster/update these days it's Interstate '76.

QFT! I spent countless hours in that game back in the day!

Yeah, man just the soundtrack for that game was pure awesome. I still have the CD somewhere. I hope.

The thing about I76 was that it was basically Mechwarrior Mercenaries, only with muscle cars.

Well, yeah, it has that new Mechwarrior smell because it was built on the Mechwarrior2 engine. It sorely needs a remake. The graphics are iconic but the engine is...creaky, especially nowadays. Good luck getting the textures to play nice, especially the sky. I've never had any luck with it, really. Even Interstate '82 had the same basic problems when trying to get it running right. It's a shame we couldn't have some kind of Win95/98 emulator. Dosbox is about unbeatable for games up to and including the early Win95-era but beyond that, from say 1997 on, we're still don't have any definitive app unless you feel like reinstalling Windows98 on a spare system. Most virtual machines don't support D3D very well, if at all. So that's out. Who would've thought we'd need a Win95-emulator twenty years later?

On a slightly off-topic note, I have a demo of Mechwarrior2's original design. (Not to mention a very early demo of Tie Fighter that still has most of X-Wing's assets and had a launcher touting the 'new' Dodge Neon! It's a two 3.5" disk set. I should try to get it imaged one of these days so it's not lost to history when the disks go, if they haven't already) See, Activision had a rough time with MW2's development and apparently it went through a re-write because the demo I have (on 3.5" disk, courtesy of the old 'PC Entertainment' magazine (that became 'PC Gamer'...yes that long ago!)) is nothing like what came out. Well, I mean game structure-wise. The engine is similar is some respects but there's NO textures whatsoever. All polys. (And sprite-based explosions) It's a strange thing to play and watch, knowing what it eventually became.

Yeah, it's the better one.

Opinions will differ of course, but I liked this 4 player party one over the solo Bloodlines.

Yea, well.. that's just like, your opinion, man.

Not arguing, I love both, but came to the first years after many many many ..<breath>.. many run throughs of Bloodlines before coming across GoG's release of Redemption. The linearity of the game threw me off at first, but I did enjoy Christof's travails across History in his attempt at saving his Anezka, and have definitely enjoyed the trip.

To tell the truth, I don't have a favorite between the two. Both of them attacked the World of Darkness from a different angle, and left me wanting more. One point for me in Bloodlines favor is that soundtrack, having brought to my attention Lacuna Coil, Darling Violetta, Chiasm and others. The games music directory has found a place on my .mp3 players since.

And that Wesp! Damn, that's some dedication to a 'dead' (see what I did there?) game these many years later. Good on ya, man, and thanks.

Also... Spycraft? Damn... you mean there's a version of that game that actually runs now? A couple years back I tried to get my copy to work and couldn't. hmmm.

Spycraft! I played Spycraft for an hour or two when it came out and I was blown away, but I didn't know it's name. I often thought about that amazing game and I was baffled that no one else who tried it seemed to like or even remember it for long.

I found the name about a decade later and bought the CDs on Ebay. IIRC I used a VM running Win95 to get it to run. It looked dated when I finally played it through - and that was a while ago - but otherwise it held up pretty well. It's a great concept and I can't think of another game like it. I've forgotten enough of the plot to make it worth playing through again.

Well... DosBOX isn't going to require DirectX. I'd guess that Steam's choices just don't go any lower, or maybe Steam itself no longer runs on lower spec?

I think it would have made sense to package a Windows interpreter like Frotz, but the screenshots suggest that they just used the original executables.

I'm guessing it runs in DosBOX, which while not a hugely demanding piece of software, nevertheless requires quite a bit more power than any actual MS-DOS machine ever required.

*EDIT* Yep, available with minor googling.

Although, OOOOH, Vampire:The Masquerade:Redemption! One of my favorite games, all time, although yes, it is somewhat linear.

Not all of the Zork games, just the text-based ones.
