More Star Wars Battlefront II Details

A press release we missed at the time accompanied yesterday's release of the Star Wars Battlefront II full length reveal trailer. It provides further details on the upcoming Star Wars action game, so here's a bit:

Today at Star Wars Celebration, Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ:EA), and Lucasfilm Ltd. announced that Star Wars™ Battlefront™ II will release on November 17, 2017 worldwide. Building upon the foundation of groundbreaking visuals and authenticity of EA’s Star Wars Battlefront, DICE, Motive and Criterion are teaming up to deliver one of the most expansive Star Wars games to date. Star Wars Battlefront II will allow players to experience the untold story of an Imperial elite special forces soldier in an all-new single player campaign. In epic multiplayer battles, players will be able to pilot a First Order TIE fighter through intense dogfights in space, and play as ground troopers or iconic heroes and villains, such as Yoda and Darth Maul, across all three Star Wars eras.

“In Star Wars Battlefront II, we all wanted to really capture the essence of being heroic and how in Star Wars, anyone can become a hero,” says Matt Webster, Executive Producer at Criterion. “Whether that’s playing as an iconic character like Rey or Luke, as a front-line trooper or fighter pilot in epic multiplayer battles, or playing through a new Star Wars story that bridges the gap between Star Wars™: Return of the Jedi™ and Star Wars™: The Force Awakens™, you will become a hero in Star Wars Battlefront II.”

Featuring new characters created by Motive in close partnership with the story group at Lucasfilm, the Star Wars Battlefront II single player campaign will deliver a new exciting story to the Star Wars universe. Taking place in the 30 years between the destruction of Death Star II and through the rise of the First Order, the single player story introduces Iden Versio, the leader of Inferno Squad, an elite special forces unit of the Galactic Empire, who are equally lethal on the ground and in space. In addition to Iden, players will also encounter and play as other iconic Star Wars heroes and villains like Luke Skywalker and Kylo Ren during the campaign.

As for racist, supremacist, etc., well, when Israel gets "a diversity rod shoved so far up their asses that they start to puke rainbows," or even loses US support, I'll do a thorough review of my positions.

I think that opinion is kind of horseshit. Did you think Luke was the only lead in Empire just because he had a training montage

I don't see how Luke/Han in the original movie has any bearing. They're two different movies.

I feel like if you switched Rey with either Po or Finn suddenly those roles would have become the lead and Rey's role would have become the sublead.

I feel like that's making my argument for me.

But, eh, I think your other opinions are basically modern eugenics, the same tired spiel of genetic superiority based on skin color or gender for decades. Knock yourself out and enjoy your victimhood.

1. You seem to be saying that one kind of victimhood narrative is good, while another is bad, but I'm not seeing the justification.
2. Eugenics, ironically, was the darling of the left in America, back in the day. Eugenics is quite distinct from ideas of racial or sexual superiority.
3. Noticing and expanding on racial or sexual differences is quite distinct from the idea of racial or sexual supremacy.
4. The "spiel" of genetic superiority based on skin color is a leftist retcon, it never existed (i.e., lefties first go through the reductionism of race as skin color to make this "point," but nobody else does - it's a straw man).

You have strong opinions that are gloriously awful and weirdly angry yet congenial. But mostly awful.

If you mean that I'm not foaming at the mouth, and mostly approach things from a relatively detached POV, then I agree. As for my personality, I'm an odd mix (IRL) of very personable and ZFG. I suppose it goes back to my tendency to avoid argumentum ad hominem; I tend to prefer separating ideas, and the people holding or uttering them. You're right though, I'm an opinionated, mouthy bastard, and an awful lot of those opinions are...controversial.

Even if the argument that 98% of customers are male, I still don't see how that would influence the casting decisions. Do all men only want to see male leads? How weird is that? Do all black people only watch Tyler Perry movies?

The majority of Tyler Perry's audience is black women, and it shows. People like to have entertainment tailored to them, is that so strange?

I think it's incredibly tribalistic to only want to see your race/gender portrayed in leading roles in anything. And being outwardly uncomfortable with anything else. It's weird. You guys are being weird.

1. Tribalism is the human norm (Europeans are outliers, though hardly devoid).
2. Tribalism isn't bad.
3. I don't think I said anything about only wanting to see my race or sex portrayed in leading roles.
4. I didn't say anything about uncomfortable. It was more of a "the customer's always right" argument. I'm always comfortable keeping my money in my wallet.
5. I find anti-tribalism weird; anti-humanist.

- After the Mass Effect Andromeda debacle, EA isn't going to be so keen to ramrod SJW stuff. It'll be there, but it will likely be very subtle and not so in-your-face.

I've played through the first three ME games many times, and haven't found them SJW. On the contrary, the player is offered scads of choices and scenarios that seem rather un-SJW, even -anti. MEA seems to have much less emphasis on these tough, interesting choices.

Wait, you guys aren't aware of the Star Wars female story arc? That Padme's death "from a broken heart" started a chain reaction in the force that will result in the elimination of all males in the Galaxy by Episode IV: Death by Snu-Snu?

...huh

I think it would be good to take a step back and think:

- Single-player Star Wars game using the latest Frostbite engine

- Tells the story between ROTJ and TFA. A lot of story to tell in a 30-year span.

- After the Mass Effect Andromeda debacle, EA isn't going to be so keen to ramrod SJW stuff. It'll be there, but it will likely be very subtle and not so in-your-face.

- Jade Raymond's studio MOTIVE worked on the single-player campaign. She was responsible for Assassin's Creed 1 and 2 and has an excellent track record of producing great products. I'm sure most of her team consists of the original AC crew, or at least people she knows will contribute to a great gaming experience. I'm not worried at this point.

- I was disappointed after Disney dissolved LucasArts and by extension 1313. Also, disappointed that Star Wars Battlefront had no single-player campaign. At this point, I'm happy EA is fronting the cost to create a proper BF title with single-player and multi-player. It's no 1313, but I'll take it!

The trouble with the equality thing is it's delusional. E.g., women don't do revolutions. Men do. Historically speaking, revolutions would not be a thing without men (the most famous female-led revolution in history is a fictional one). Women are into consensus and obeying authority. If you want an expert on what everyone thinks, ask a woman. So, when you have a revolution that's so moribund that some female walk-on can do the leading five minutes in, it makes suspension of disbelief even harder than it already is for sci-fi. Never mind the loss of respect in the audience (entertainment's as much about the unconscious, as the conscious, and PC is mostly about the conscious mind). Sci-fi needs a keen understanding of human nature, so that the audience can relate to all the weird shit you're throwing on the screen (hence the curious ubiquity of humans in space opera). Ignore that, and you lower the quality of your output. And we've already got a population that doesn't really respect the art or expect much as it is ("It's just a movie," "it's just a sci-fi movie," etc.). Female-led institutions bleed respect, invite insurrection (don't take my word for it, do some web research, look into institutions and fields that transitioned from heavily male, to heavily female). Ironically in this case. (On the other hand, the jihadi cannon-fodder rebels were all or almost all men, I don't remember seeing any women).

Then there are all the contradictions. E.g., the same people who drone on about "sexual equality" and "LGBTQWERTY" are the same people who drone on about "Islamophobia"; it's like they're deliberately smashing matter and anti-matter together for kicks.

Personally, I think audience-driven demographics should be the thing. Your heroes should be idealized versions of your customers. How many girls are going to buy BF2? Does anyone see a push to put male heroes into female-oriented entertainment fare? Of course, the globalist dream is to smoosh us all down flat so nobody complains when they sell the same one-size-fits-all homogenized crap to everyone (MONOculturalism); a McDonald's in every LGBTQWERTYJHFCWGAF-sensitive Madrassah.

Also: 2 male leads.

Sub-leads. Cohais to the sempais.

EA doesn't really make games, they publish them. So as long as EA gives the developers the freedom they need then it'll be a good game. Only time will tell how much EA involved themselves.

I think it'll be good. Jade Raymond's MOTIVE studio is handling the single-player portion. I believe she was the lead for the first and second Assassin's Creed game, so I have faith in her and her team's ability to handle the Star Wars material quite well. Who knows? Maybe this will be on the level of the original Mass Effect trilogy.

That is provided they are female...

i'd muse on why so many of you nerds have such a complex about girls and girl-coded concepts but it's not exactly rocket science.

Don't even get me started on how much genuine hate people had that there was a black character in TFA. A whole galaxy, and they managed to find a second black guy other than Lando, and people lost their minds.

Please dear god content creators, shove the diversity LGBTQ rod so far up their asses that they start to puke rainbows. Had enough of these racist sexist fuckers acting like they own the place.

I'm with this sentiment ever since I saw the rage the Towerfall people got for putting in a homage to that bad documentary making feminist. Like, I think her product is mostly garbage with a hint of an uncomfortable truth but to boycott one of the most amazing couch games ever because of a sprite you wouldn't know was her unless you read it online is ridiculous, and my joy at their angry tears continues to amuse me every day. I hope we get 8 years of Trump failing them because that is my second favorite taste of rage. Imagining those bulging veins in their forehead as the stress takes minutes of their life makes me happy. Maybe that's wrong but I cannot help it.
