Then there's the fact that Aikido didn't exist until fairly recently. I want to say it was invented in the 1940s, but don't quote me.

Right, because Judo and Aikido (also every nationalities derivative)didn't exist for 100s of years before you were born, to set the world strait. Oh wait another delusion, I get it, you were just testing me. Hahaha_no

That you attempt to use Judo as an example to prove your point shows you know nothing about Judo's history or its practice.

Get on the mat, it'll open your eyes.

My theory:

1. Criticizing western traditions is enshrined in western culture.
2. Criticizing non-western traditions is verboten.

Hence the east Asian martial arts mythos, which is roughly as plausible as King Arthur and Excalibur, Siegfried and the Dragon, etc., and somewhat less plausible than The Man With No Name's skill with a gun, is swallowed more or less whole by western rubes desperate for something to believe in, but denied their own (earnest) mythology.

Okay, sorry, I'll ease up. It's just so funny, and so tragic, at the same time...

I dub it, The Delusion of Self-Actualization, Kung-Fu Grip Edition.

"If I am more moral and righteous (i.e., PC) than the evil Nazi karate instructor, I can be lil' old Pat Morita, and he can be twice my size and half my age and in way better shape, and I'll still win with my Dim Mak/Shinobi/Redirection technique!"

Oy vey.

In the real world, boys and girls, plz carry a knife or a gun. Hoping gravity and soft spots will help you overcome superior numbers, or superior size, speed, aggression, and conditioning...a world of hurt awaits.

Weapons. They are the reality of self-actualization.

P.S., I trained in Aikido, Judo, and Jujitsu for 4 years.

I'd be fine with the buttkicking babes thing, if they used actually butt-kicking babes. You know, the ones that look a lot like men. Big, hairy, big-boned, muscular, low hip-to-waist ratio, no body fat, face like a sack of potatoes, etc.

But cute 120 lb waifs? No. Rough customer or hot, pick one, ladies.

I got to disagree about 60-100 pounds, really means nothing in martial arts. It's not boxing where your trying to out last body beating, it's about soft spots and using gravity.

Oh, brother. Yeah, they must have weight classes in pro MMA to protect the big guys from the little guys. And since Chi is the thing, east Asians must dominate MMA...

The delusions that swirl around eastern martial arts, lol. "My katana can cut through your lightsaber!"

I'm not sure Charlize Theron really has the physical presence to be doing that much martial arts work, but what are you going to do, Hollywood rarely hires unknowns.

Did you see Fury Road?

Yeah, I love that film, and as somebody who has been doing martial arts for about 15 years now, I found the sequences where she fought Tom Hardy relatively evenly, with only one arm, and down about 60 pounds, to be pretty embarassing to good fight choreography. Gun Play is a different story of course.

Training and speed help, viciousness/determination helps, but if you are giving up a 60-100 pound muscle advantage to the opponent, it starts to put fights out of reach.

Not that I am expecting the most realistic fight scenes ever or something, and I'll probably still see this, but I KNOW there are more physically adept actresses out there. Do they have Theron's acting chops, or fame? Well.....

When you stop dancing around in pajamas and get involved in a martial art that incorporates sparring against a resisting opponent, you'll quickly realize why weight classes exist.
Right, when you wake up from your fantasy delusion, of something dancing around pajamas and you are so awesome you beat it because 'size matters', let us know. Giggle

No need to be derogatory, but yes, even a 10-20 pound weight difference among equally skilled competitors is going to be huge. If you do study martial arts, I highly recommend you study at school(s) that do at least light body contact and/or grappling, so you realize that it's not just training, but cardio, speed and strength that matter quite a bit.

That's why the ridiculous size difference of Charlize Theron (yes, very sexy, excellent actress, etc.) fighting Tom Hardy or some of the giant thugs in the Atomic Blonde trailers makes me roll my eyes. It's possible she could win, sure. Just not very likely.

I like her but I just can never buy the Chick John Wick kind of flick. It was like Salt with Angelina, or Lara Croft with Angelina, or any other ultimate badass chick flick. And any trailer with Kanye West music in it does not bode well. However, the cast is solid all around so I'm sure I'll give it a watch at some point.

I'm hoping there's at least a 3 movie story, similar to John Wick. I'd always rather be watching Dame Charlize, she's in stunningly good shape. Winkrazz

Her acting skills are far and away better than most martial art ladies at least in US movies.
