Or I went to the Steam page and read the information. It sounds exactly like H1Z1, sans zombies, and H1Z1 is a shit game. In fact, they fucking cite H1Z1 on their Steam page as if that's some kind of positive reference material.

The only reference to H1Z1 is this: PLAYERUNKNOWN aka Brendan Greene, is a pioneer of the Battle Royale genre. As the creator of the Battle Royale game-mode found in the ARMA series and H1Z1 : King of the Kill, Greene is co-developing the game with veteran team at Bluehole to create the most diverse and robust Battle Royale experience to date.

King of the Kill is a battle royale mode for H1Z1. It does not have zombies and isn't a survival sandbox. It has a specific goal and a time limit in which to accomplish it. It's essentially large-scale deathmatch with permadeath.

[His post was clearly a reactionary one made with very little knowledge of the game at hand. That is unfortunately common on the internet. I'm guessing he looked at a screenshot and immediately assumed that the game was just another survival sandbox game like H1Z1 or Conan Exiles.

- BATTLE ROYALE

has anything to do with Minecraft?

Antithesis of Minecraft? There are a good number of people who play Minecraft in ways just like this. There IS a community of PvP players, but they are pretty self-contained.
Do you have a single fact to back that up?

This is the dumbest-sounding shit I've ever read. Aside from insane Russian men and massive griefers, I can't fathom who makes up the audience for this type of game. It's like the antithesis of Minecraft.

Oh, and of course it's early access, because why would anyone release *yet another* of these open-world survival games when it's actually done.

Read more than headline and/or play game then comment

Additional: Early access actually makes the most sense for any type of multiplayer game, as there is legit no way to test these games without being available to the public. Games can't get good without a solid development/testing/development feedback loop. Unless you are an AAA company, you can't get this loop going for a multiplayer game without some form of public access.

I'd even go as far as to say many AAA games should have been more open earlier on in their development process.

Played the alpha and beta. These guys really do work, so you wont have to be afraid of it never getting completed. Its also a lot of fun, so much fun that I can actually laugh when someone kills me (and that is sometimes even funnier, since you can talk to your enemies via voice chat, begging for your life, taunting them, etc).
Havent bought it yet, since I am busy with something else, but I will.
I have given up on waiting for BIS to come back to their senses and do a real ArmA 2 successor.

Is there a Battle Royale game that is generally considered to be the best? It seems like a good mode for public servers; not reliant on teamwork with randoms, but more organised than FFA.

Been playing this with Batz mrgrosser and another person and it's a pretty solid game. Needs some network tweaking and a few more coats of optimizations, but quite a bit of fun.

Of course, the Battle Royale mod for Arma 2 and H1Z1 would argue against you. And this is designed by the original modder as well (PLayerUnknown).

It's also not really a survival game like you're thinking. It's rounds of combat. You're dropped off and have to scavenge the area for armor and weapons (of which there are plenty) and every few minutes the map area gets smaller and smaller thanks to an electrical field the closes in, pushes everyone together to force engagement and the round ends when everyone except one is dead. It's not like it's an open world wander around aimlessly thing.

They've also had many alphas and such and it actually plays pretty well already. It needs some code optimization to make it run better, but I'd actually say it's already further along than H1Z1 is.
I've watched some gameplays, it's intense and had me on the edge of my seat.
Glad it's so popular.
