Actually your line of thinking is why Clinton and the Democrats are losing so badly. The majority of Americans are tired of being called racists for simply not sharing your whackjob ideology.
I think that is some people but not enough to win on just that. You have 30% that are just republican by name, like democrat. You get the extra percentages when you target the smaller groups and yes that is one you mention, right or wrong, they exist.
The demo's lost for this reason, they didn't run an open primary and entitled it to a woman that didn't connect nor put in the effort during the campaign to energize the others that make the difference. She had the woman stance, which was good, but again low effort. The demo's had a guy with the juice and the smaller groups of his own (Millennials), which would have won it for him hands down.
That is the only lesson they have to learn, be open and have the best man or woman win the primaries by earning it. If it was a standard republican who won, they would have though... we'll try in another 4 years, but getting Trump, they have to look back and think the risk of handing it to her like that wasn't worth it, at all.
Comrade Sanders wouldn't have beat Trump either, don't kid yourself. The only states Hillary won are liberal coastal strongholds, Illinois and New Mexico also both liberal strong holds. The rest of the country is tired of the progressive globalist agenda, tired of the left's anti America stance and tired of being called racist for being against illegal immigration, key word being illegal. Hell just look at the electoral map of Trump's win, it might shock you that the MSM doesn't actually represent the majority of Americans. I believe the left still hasn't realized that either as their stategy of doubling down on identity politics as being of the utmost importance, while race baiting at every opportunity hasn't really been a great strategy.
