World of Darkness Interactive Fiction

Steam now offers a pair of World of Darkness preludes from the White Wolf, the studio behind Vampire: The Masquerade and the upcoming Werewolf: The Apocalypse. Vampire The Masquerade: We Eat Blood and Mage The Ascension: Refuge are all-new interactive fiction games they describe as inspired by the classic choose your own adventure books. Word is: "The White Wolf titles tell mature, intelligent stories featuring a foreboding painterly art style. Vampire The Masquerade: We Eat Blood is written and illustrated by Zak Sabbath and Sarah Horrocks. Mage The Ascension: Refuge was written by noted Swedish author Karin Tidbeck." Here's a We Eat Blood trailer and a Refuge trailer showing off more of what to expect.

"World of Darkness is dead"? Clearly you are oblivious to the RPG and related LARP scene. V20 is far more then a minor update and many NEW books from scratch have been published for that line. And now 5th edition is being worked on and currently being play-tested scheduled for a release next year.

And don't get me started on the never ending community support and following for Bloodlines.

Then we have the VtM live parties, events and conferences around the world such as The Grand Masquerade in NOLA and End of the Line in Germany that sell out.

So please, the real facts show your doom and gloom is the same as trumps 'alternative facts'.

Such a shame they put out such complete trash. It is a crime to call it a game.

"We eat blood"

WITAF? That's some mature storytelling you've got there, Lou.

Look, World of Darkness is dead. No pun intended. It screwed the pooch long and hard with it's reboot, White Wolf got bought out by EVE Online, who then let the license atrophy until one of the old product devs founded Onyx Publishing and kickstarted shovelware (no pun intended) where they basically washed the old books through Print On Demand and some publisher layout updates, and then charged people top dollar for it. They even charged money to *write* for the book, instead of the other way around.

WoD is dead and the time for it's resurrection passed when the Twilight trilogy came and went. If there were any savvy marketers who gave a shit about WoD any more they'd have done a huge relaunch on Twilight's first movie and rode that wave hard with licensed fiction, board games, TTRPGs, etc...

Now.

All of that having been said.

Some of the indie mobile phone games out there are ARG-lite games that replicate social networks, chat programs, google, etc...

World of Darkness has always been about the supernatural world laying underneath our own and conspiracies laying down every alleyway and shit like that.

WoD and these ARG-lite games seem like they'd be made for each other. But that would require creativity, intelligence, and a little bit of a bankroll.

That looks like shit. If you want choose your own adventure done right check Steve Jackson games like Sorcery and Warlock of Firetop Mountain.
