Warhammer 40,000 Inquisitor Early Access

The Neocore Store now offers Warhammer 40,000 Inquisitor Martyr Editions, which provide access to the alpha version of their new Warhammer 40K action/RPG. They offer four tiers of access ranging from a $40 version with just the game all the way to a $999.99 Grandmaster Pack which they say is for "enthusiasts," though others might choose a different word. This FAQ has all the details, here's a launch trailer, and here's an overview:
The time has finally come. The very first Action-RPG in the Warhammer 40,000 universe has reached the alpha state and we're ready to welcome the first Inquisitors in the Caligari sector. From this day all the way to the release date we'll be working side by side with our players to realize our vision for Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor - Martyr. It's going to be an exciting journey.

Our Founders' Campaign, called The Founding is specially designed for players who would like follow and influence the development of Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor - Martyr from the earliest playable build. Early adopters can choose from various packages each with exclusive digital and physical content, available only on the Neocore Store.

Please note that this is a very early version of Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor - Martyr, lacking some of the features and gameplay elements which will make the final game a truly unique experience. For more information about The Founding, please read our FAQ or contact us directly with your questions.

a $1000 dollar copy? Seriously who will back on that level

You would be surprised how many do that do. Must be nice to have money like that to just trow around.

Here's a lets play of the games action. looks pretty good so far.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zdVtEZAi3Wg

Good? that looks horrific.. reminded me of Restricted Area (2004) and that is not a compliment. And the let's play seems like super early stuff, no level up system, no loot system.. wtf?

Oh, you mean like how every other Top Down shooter looks and plays? Yea, OK!

Huh, seems the PR is calling it an ARPG, and if this wants to be an ARPG then it looks bad to me. If it wants to be a dumbed down shooter with 4 classes, 4 whopping skills per weapon and 2 whole weapons per class then it achieved that I guess, but it still looks like shit, enemies behave dumbly, there is no real power or fight management going, no scarce resources or tactical decision making. And while it looks graphically nice, it doesn't look like much more than a.. well, yeah, top down shooter.

Is this supposed to be a top down shooter and nothing more than that?

You know, ARPG -> Diablo, Path of Exile, Sacred, Hellgate London.. stuff like that? There is absolutely no RPG in this game (in the video you linked), and that is what confuses me greatly. It also cries to the heavens because it's another developer wasting the greatest sci-fi universe we have with mediocrity.

But hopefully this will still change... they say it is "very early" whatever that means. But if you sell it, it is imo valid to rate it "AS-IS" ^^

Gameplay looks good? He walks up and enters the agro range, get's shot at, then walks a foot away, and the enemy wanders off as if he never existed; clickfest with poor AI, another waste of the 40k IP.

This game looks fairly interesting, from a gameplay/design standpoint, but hopefully the online related bullshit is all optional. D3 Seasons ripoff, clans voting, other stuff has been mentioned in a couple spots.

ARPGs will almost always get a test play from me, but the competition is pretty well established. I'm done with D3, but Grim Dawn has matured very nicely; they should be releasing another 2 classes this year.

Alpha or pre-alpha gameplay videos look a little slow though...I'm not going to bother playing Early Access, but hopefully a ton of people playtest it before I get to it.

Somebody mentioned in another thread on this game, it's the same company who made Van Helsing? Definitely looks like a slightly updated version of that engine, which I found to be a bit clunky and unoptimized, at least in the first two games. I need to try that Director's Cut or whatever re-release version still.

Money is relative. $999 might be a lot to you, but is absolutely nothing to someone else.

I can think of a LOT better things to spend money on than their $999 package. Also, $40 USD as the minimum buy-in isn't cheap either. I'll pass and wait for more information even though I'm a die-hard WH40K nut. Games Workshop isn't exactly particular about who it licenses to nowadays some some pretty crappy games have come out recently using their IPs.

For $1000, you physically get:

Collector’s Ornate Box
Unique T-Shirt with Your Name
Inqusitor’s Chalice
Map of the Caligari Sector (Cloth)
Caligari Credit Coins (Metal)
Inqusitor’s Pendrive (16 GB)
Signed Hardcover Book
Exclusive Half-Day Studio Tour * (travel fees not included)

There is literally nothing in that pack worth more than a couple hundred even if you were into the game collector's piece thing. For the $1000, I'd say they'd have to include travel and lodgings for it to be worth that amount.

The studio is in Budapest. Round trip tickets from Chicago and NYC are around $600. From the west coast of the US? $700-$1000, depending on where you're leaving from. Leave from a regional airport rather than a hub? Expect to pay more (Milwaukee, only 70-ish miles north of Chicago, more than doubled the price). That's why it's on you to cover travel expenses.

I agree, for that price, travel should certainly be included. I mean, it doesn't have to be the Ritz Carlton or even Embassy Suits, a Motel6 is fine with airplane tickets and a rental car, along with maybe a lunch voucher for a swank local burger joint. Hell, bring the burger joint into the whole thing and have them advertise it! $1000 and you get lunch with the devs, anything on the menu at the eatery and a studio tour! That sounds like a much better value. Personally, I think those that pay that much for EA or pre-order should have their names made public. Why? Because that's the first thing people want to know when they read this kind of thing! I mean, everything else in this world is public knowledge nowadays, why not this?! And maybe it would stop people from paying for such stupid shit sometimes! Yes, it's mostly digital access (with the included physical goodies) vs. spending $1000 on Warhammer figures but in the end, you're all just playing with yourselves! (for $1000)
