Mass Effect Andromeda Trailers

EA and BioWare offer two new trailers for Mass Effect: Andromeda, the upcoming resumption of the sci-fi action/RPG series. These are the official cinematic trailer #2 and a Pathfinder Team Briefing video, an exposition heavy introduction to the game and your new team. Here's the lowdown on both clips:
How far will you go? Prospective Pathfinders will learn a little more about the dangers of the Andromeda galaxy today as EA and BioWare revealed two new trailers for Mass Effect: Andromeda, one of 2017’s most anticipated games. The new cinematic character trailer offers a glimpse at Pathfinder Ryder’s squadmates and allies in their search for humanity’s new home. The explorers find a little more than they bargained for, however, as the dangerous Kett Archon demonstrates that the uncharted Andromeda galaxy is also full of new perils and threats.

The latest Andromeda Initiative briefing video also released today introduces players to leading members of the human Pathfinder team on Ark Hyperion, including Pathfinder Alec Ryder, his children Scott and Sarah Ryder, Crisis Responder Liam Kosta and Operations Specialist Cora Harper, who together will lead humanity’s discovery of new worlds in the Andromeda Galaxy when Mass Effect: Andromeda launches on March 21.

Really iffy about this, DA:I hit a lot of sour notes for me. The shallow "side" activities and blandness to its cities. The sidequests themselves were very repetitive and poorly designed collectathons. The main quest and some of the companion stuff was what redeemed it for me. Overall it was enjoyable but its flaws were definitely glaring. I hope that they learned something from it and didn't just make DA:I in space as a few of the trailers seem to indicate.

The great thing about games like the Witcher 3, or Tyranny (as a recent example) etc. is that after I've experienced and played them I have no problem with avoiding and simply NOT buying into the complete lazyness that is pretty much any recent game by EA/Bioware etc. The last Dragon Age game is a perfect example. 5 minutes of a youtube gameplay review was enough to notice ALL the horrible shortcomings of the game. The quest/loot system ripped straight out of the worst MMOs. The terrible zoning that plagues Bioware games like...well like the plague. The horrible tactical pause and AI interface that seems to get worse and worse with each game they release and forces you into button mashing and teeth gnashing. Oh and of course how much they tried to rip Skyrim's look and feel.

How they keep making and selling these games is beyond me really when each and every sequel they make is worse than the previous game. I guess its the Call of Duty syndrome or something. Their marekting is really "good" i guess.

Sorry if you're reading this CrushBug, it's scathing but it happens to be true.

Has ANYONE not noticed the likeness of the Crew with the CREW from Bioware's The Old Republic Eternal Fleet campaign?

Black guy with dreads, blonde woman who is second in command, Krogan/HK-47 unit, etc.

And I hope you get to change the looks of the main characters cause the guy looks like he's been caught in headlights, and the female is always smiling (go watch the video where she disarms a guy).

I'm soooo ready for more Mass Effect, but when you have to sell your game with a trailer of two characters getting it on.....
I always mixed up Knights of the old Republic games with Mass Effect games in my memory.
They really are very similar, yes.

As a fan of the original trilogy (yes, I even liked the revised ME3 with the new endings) I'm looking forward to this! Enormous, AAA-rated, Sci-Fi gaming epics tend to be rare, I'll keep myself open to buying this. I won't preorder. Going to wait until player reviews come out.

There's a combat vid out there, looks exactly like Inquisition in space. The ME3 left such a bitter taste that this would have to be amazing to give me any faith in them again.

I was hoping some of the major pubs/devs would take a page from Witcher 3 to learn how to do a CRPG properly, but I guess not.

Well, first of this is helmed by Mac Walters, who is absolutely convinced he is the greatest gift to game development of all time, so yeah, fat chance of that.

That said, it's one thing to see the Witcher 3 and go "We need to make our game more awesome, like the Witcher 3" and another thing to be actually able to do it.

CDPR is blessed with some incredible writers who come up with just absolutely amazing storylines for their quests. I'm betting the large majority of other dev houses simply don't have writers of that caliber. The first sign of mediocre writers is how often they will fall back on tropes and just regurgitate what's come before.

It's not just the writing but overall design that shows real thinking outside the box. A real open-world CPRG, where as BiowarEA games are so closed in and linear, they only provide the illusion of size. Integrating side-quests in a way that make sense. Just a million little things no one has done before but a lot of old school gamers have been griping about for years. It's not rocket surgery, CDPR simply chose to listen and take that advice. The end result speaks for itself.

Probably, but DA:Inquisition wasn't all bad. It was fun to explore, had nice zone design, had a pretty decent story, and some excellent missions.

I'm looking forward to it. In the end, it'll be "More Mass Effect." If you enjoyed Mass Effect before, I doubt anyone wouldn't enjoy it again.

Yeah it will be good... however there will be the sour pusses for sure.

thats true, i wasnt implying it would be "bad" just fairly cookie-cutter design.. the problem I had with DAI is that all the strategy map struggles and side questing and so forth gave an impression and appearance of going somewhere or affecting the story, but it was actually completely empty and just all for show

same with the judging of the peasants or whatever, where you decide things from the throne, etc. - that shit is cool, but it should actually have an effect of some sort instead of being just window dressing

the overall impression of the whole game was far too superficial and surface level.. its a shame because the game wasnt horrible so you want it to go somewhere

Yeah, I definitely agree with that. I doubt Andromeda will really have anything along those lines; if they do, they haven't even hinted at it.

the other issue is that it was far to easy to get god-mode with certain character builds, even without any sort of pre-planning or checking guides or whatever, and thats just lazy design because it renders the actual gameplay moot

Yeah, it was way too easy to become immortal. That's not really been the case in the ME series, though, unless you became REALLY good at playing a Vanguard (in which case your nigh-immortality just came because of skill, not because you chose the right build.)

That said, the Pathfinder's ability to mix and match powers from every class will undoubtedly lead to some absurdly broken combos. Vanguard's charge + full shield restore combined with Sentinel's 100% full shield boost seems a fairly easy pick for something that looks like it'll be ridiculously OP.

the whole thing just seemed half-assed.. granted its from a massive AAA corp so it was a massive, huge amount of half-ass

Haha, so true. They've kept saying they "learned" from DA:I, so hopefully at least there won't be "gather up 300+ pieces of shit to unlock a tomb that gets you a fucking dagger!" quests in it. Although from the trailers I have already seen that you as the Supreme Leader over the entire mission are still the guy/gal who has to go out and find all the fucking minerals / metals you require. Because apparently those 20000 people we brought along are incapable of doing anything except jack shit. I hope there's an option to turn their life support off.

I like ME universe but not the corporation running the show. I'm betting origin only, main characters sold as dlc and probably that new drm, which I've so far never installed or played any game using it. Surely ea will have a few more surprises, waiting for their unsuspecting customers.

Yes, but that's been the case for awhile now. To be fair to Bioware, they've been writing like 8-10 companions per game on average since the late 90s. Eventually you run out of ideas.

That said, I do think that the companions are going to be found lacking compared to the awesome crew of the original ME trilogy.

And I hope you get to change the looks of the main characters cause the guy looks like he's been caught in headlights, and the female is always smiling (go watch the video where she disarms a guy).

You can, yes. The female especially looks terrible. Her renegade interrupts while she's smiling just look ridiculous. Why nobody at Bioware sees that is beyond comprehension.

I'm soooo ready for more Mass Effect, but when you have to sell your game with a trailer of two characters getting it on.....

It's just fan service. Their entire forum used to be full with people who wanted nothing more than "more female romances written by David Gaider!" so they're just pandering. Rest assured it's just an optional thing.

Almost no matter how mediocre this shit will end up being, it will get 9/10 and 10/10 reviews by default unless it is a complete bug-ridden mess (which it won't be). Why try harder if you can get top scores for mediocrity and laziness?

EA/Bio (and many others) have gotten top scores for mediocre shit for decades by now. No need for actual Witcher-like work and dedication. They just squeeze out the next turd and the money still comes rolling in from all the mouthbreathing fantards...

thats how it used to be for sure... but nowadays people are looking more to the youtubers for reviews, who are generally less pressured by the given corps marketing/pr/executives etc, so there is at least a better chance for more realistic critiques.. it doesnt always work out that way, but it seems at least better than somethng like gamespot or ign

Of course not. That would mean actual work and investment (both financially and dedication). Why put a lot of effort into something if you can also be lazy, use a popular franchise as bait and still get stellar reviews from bribing all the streamers and reviewers or by simply counting on the fanboi factor?

EA recycles all the content it can. And all of that looks so typically formulaic for their games. I was hoping some of the major pubs/devs would take a page from Witcher 3 to learn how to do a CRPG properly, but I guess not. Oh well, I'll pick it up in a year or two on a deep discount.
