It's a first-party nintendo title, coming out for a new Nintendo console. It's not exactly a 3rd party developer trying to switch things up at the last minute (pun intended). It's reasonable to imagine that Nintendo was very well aware of their own console coming out, and the game was developed for it, and "ported" back to the Wii-U.
This isn't reasonable. The game was announced for WiiU 4 years ago. It's unlikely zero development was in place during this announcement so development started more than 4 years ago. It was shown live for the first time on WiiU 3 years ago. It was originally scheduled to be released for WiiU in 2015, and then was delayed. The most recent demos of the game for both consoles had the Switch version running at a more unstable framerate than the WiiU version, indicating it's optimization wasn't as far along. It's a port.
People are "complaining" because the only high profile Switch launch title is a port of a WiiU game. There are less games at launch than the Wii, WiiU or 3DS had. Mario is holiday 2017. Splatoon is summer. Mario Kart is 2 months after launch and it's also a port. This thing is looking anemic and it isn't even out yet. There is little point purchasing it until it has dedicated high profile games you can't buy on the existing console.
