Slick, the gamecube version of TP released a month after the Wii version... exactly like they are doing again here. They were not designed for the new systems, they are ports.
I don't know what the hell they are thinking here... no part of this new system appeals to me (as a rabid nintendo fanboy) and that's going to be a huge problem for them.
A ported Zelda again, a ported Mario Kart... and no signs of life for Kirby, Donkey Kong, Metroid, Star Fox, F-Zero, Mario Party, Smash brothers... it's like they aren't even trying.
Yeah, I edited my post after reading up on that, I didn't play Z:TP until years after the Wii came out, so I wrongly assumed that it was ported later. It does seem to be the same play.
Still, the idea of complaining about the most anticipated Zelda title ever, coming out on a new system rendered in the highest resolution ever for the launch of a Zelda game, because it's a "port" is just silly.
Can I complain that the DX12 version of BF1 is a "port" of the DX11 version? What about Win7 to Win10? Win10 gets better frames, but is it just a port? If the game plays the same, what exactly is the big deal that I'm missing? Why the outrage?
Are people SERIOUSLY saying that they'd RATHER the Switch port be delayed a year? Or release the Wii-U version a year before, would that be better? Since when is giving games more time to develop a bad thing?
Also, the idea of a "port" is usually going from one platform to another, when the game was obviously built for one platform in particular. I don't think you can make that claim with this Zelda game because:
It's a first-party nintendo title, coming out for a new Nintendo console. It's not exactly a 3rd party developer trying to switch things up at the last minute (pun intended). It's reasonable to imagine that Nintendo was very well aware of their own console coming out, and the game was developed for it, and "ported" back to the Wii-U.
Unless you work internally for nintendo's strategic development division (or whatever), It's just speculation. New consoles are usually in development for years, how can anyone claim that this Zelda wasn't being built with it in mind?
