I have an OLED set and image retention is a non issue, this was largely solved already at the end of the first generation of sets even. Like plasma it is an "issue" that will proliferate due to peoples ignorance on the subject and old articles in the google search cache.

What people are really worried about is burn-in or blue pixel exhaustion, neither is an issue in modern sets. Image Retention is a different thing and I've never seen it survive a simple power on/power off cycle even after 5 hours of gaming with a HUD on screen. The sets also do an off duty cycling when turned off, its built into the firmware. OLED is fine, buy one with confidence if you really want it. They're fucking insane and you won't be able to go back, just forewarning.

pfft, unless they somehow get rid of the image retention of OLED, I wouldn't count on it being used for a monitor, probably ever

Most people would replace their tv/monitor before they have burn in issues.

I'm in agreeance, OLED of GTFO.

I have a first gen OLED tv at home that i've had for 18 months now and it still kills everything i see in shops...as well as my mates brand new 4k quantom dot unit that cost him 7k.

Im waiting to see what this year brings otherwise i'll be seeking out a 65+" oled with HDR.

As for my monitor, my dell 144 gsync is doing is fine until the oleds arrive. (fingers crossed)

Facebook has been a boon for shareholders since its IPO. The company's stock is now trading over 200% higher than its 2012 Wall Street debut. However, not everyone is pleased with the social media platform. In recent years, the company has drawn significant criticism over its privacy policies and the mass data collection of its users. According the company’s statements, Facebook collects data on nearly anything it can, including who its users communicate with, users’ financial transactions, and the types of devices users are connecting with.

DUH! That has always been an issue, and its always smoke-and-mirrors with the privacy settings, which is why I was only had a FB account for less than a month several years ago.

It's funny, because probably a lot of the people that bitch about Windows 10 privacy settings, are the same ones that post their life on FB. Put things into perspective here.

Okay, that is my rant for the day. The other companies listed aren't a surprise either.

Facebook has always been creepy about data. I remember the first time I signed up for it years ago at my coworker's behest, I gave it my name and hometown and it instantly came back with my father's name, my high school girlfriend's name, and my Japanese girlfriend's name. Fucking crazy.

Agreed! On a side note, though i'd like one of those monitors, am i wrong to think that we'll need some serious video-cards to really see the full benefits of this monitor. I know the low end limitations of gsync in terms of fps and that we can do 60 max details with high end cards. I max out the details on my xb270hu and usually play at 80 fps minimum. I want to do the same at 4k. HDR isn't widely supported so I'm strongly leaning towards enjoying 1440 for a couple more years.

fixed your quote... i also agree, 27" a bit too small for 4K. 34"+ is needed

Thanks!

pfft, unless they somehow get rid of the image retention of OLED, I wouldn't count on it being used for a monitor, probably ever. I can't think of a worse fate for a screen than to have the fucking windows taskbar seared onto it for all eternity.

384-point FALD will be more than good enough for deep blacks, even with the IPS panel. Plus that 1000 nit brightness... my GOD. Most pc monitors don't go above 350.

Worth noting that more nits doesn't only mean more eye-ball searing, it means better colours. It takes the now 10-bit colour and gives it something to tango with... analogy time!

it's like having a 12" pizza, with 8-bit the pizza is cut into 8 slices, with 10-bit it's cut into 10 slices, but the pizza remains the same size. You need to pump up the available brightness levels to really "get your worth" out of cutting the pizza into 10 slices. AKA making the pizza 14" instead of 12".

Sorry, been reading obsessively about TVs for the past could months, I want to sell a kidney for the LG W7 screen... even if there's virtually no 4k HDR content available.

DCI-P3 is the colour gamut that hollywood uses to master their movies. It's more than rec-709 used in most SDR content, but not as good as rec-2020.

Although most HDR DCI-P3 content is technically packaged in a rec.2020 container, but it's not true rec.2020. No display in the world comes close to true rec.2020

basically, that's the GOD MONITOR. Also 384-point FALD. JESUS. My $3000 Vizio P-series only has 128.

This was the #1 best news of CES to me, it has everything, and fucking QUANTUM DOTS TOO,

=-Rigs-=

They don't explain it in the article as far as I can tell, but it's essentially a standard for a color gamut (in this case one that allows for the display of a wider gamut).

Also I know when they're putting a $2k price tag on a monitor they feel it needs a unique design but... ew.

It's way the fuck too small, especially at that price. 40-50" is the absolute perfect size for a 4k desktop monitor. Monitor manufacturers need to wise up. Can't wait to see if the new line of Samsung TVs will come in a version of that size.

Apples and oranges, brah. You don't have to use FB but the vast majority of people have to use Windows...if they want to use a computer. And most of them don't know, and what's more, don't care. The people who do make the effort. I log into FB now and then to see what my peeps are up to. I have everything turned off, ublocked, and ghostery-ed. What info FB has on me is extremely limited at best. Hell, I don't even use my real name for the account. So, again, if you care you can take steps to mitigate that sort of invasivness and still use the service minimally.

Not trying to troll but, you most have to use Windows not Windows 10. I tried 10 with Spybot Anti-Beacon and O&O ShutUp 10 and went back to Windows 7 (mostly because of hardware issues). I'm of the inion that there are enough OSs out there for any home user to opt out of using Win10. With regards to FB, I had it for a month after being bugged by co-workers, I left it blank and they got the message lol. Yes, I'm anti-social but, I do have a solid group of friends and some i've known for 30 years now.

Wut? You do that and your pixel density goes to shit, defeating the whole purpose of having a 4k display to begin with: HiDPI scaling. Unless you plan to use your monitor solely for gaming, and to sit a good 6-8' back from it, then putting a 50" 4k monitor on your desk would mean that text and interface elements would look no better, if not look out right worse, than a plain old 27" 1080p monitor.
