Dishonored 2 New Game Plus Mode Released

Bethesda now offers the promised update for Dishonored 2, adding a New Game Plus mode to the assassination sequel. Here's the lowdown:

We’re pleased to announce that Dishonored 2’s first free game update with New Game Plus is now available worldwide for PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

Dishonored 2 offers the freedom of choice to play and improvise as you like. With this new mode, combine Empress Emily Kaldwin’s abilities with Royal Protector Corvo Attano’s signature powers to create any custom combo of multiple powers that you can imagine. Unlocked once you complete the game as either Emily or Corvo, New Game Plus lets you begin anew as either character with access to each hero’s full suite of abilities plus all the Bonecharm Traits and Runes collected from your previous playthrough that you can re-assign to choose the powers you want.

Even more options to customize your experience will arrive in January with the game’s second free update that will include two new features: Mission Select and additional Custom Difficulty Settings that further tailor to your playstyle and adjust the challenge based on a wide array of settings. Stay tuned in the coming weeks for more details on the second free update.

Reprise your role as a supernatural assassin in Dishonored 2, the follow up to Arkane Studio's first-person action blockbuster and winner of more than 100 'Game of the Year' awards. Recently honored with ‘Best Action-Adventure Game’ at The Game Awards 2016, Dishonored 2 has been praised by IGN as “amazing” and “a superb sequel”, declared a “masterpiece” by Eurogamer, and hailed “a must-play revenge tale among the best in its class” by Game Informer.

When the mad witch Delilah seizes the throne the fate of your Empire is left hanging in the balance, how far will you go to hunt down your enemies - and take back what’s yours? Will you choose to play as Empress Emily Kaldwin or the royal protector, Corvo Attano? How will you combine your powerful supernatural abilities, weapons and gadgets to eliminate your enemies?

Haha, now I see your case a bit, but one day you'll see it for yourself and laugh about it too. This is really not that kind of game anymore.

The intro is an autoplaying non-interactive sequence. You can't walk around, slow down, take it in at your pace, meet people, none of that this time. In less than a minute, there's Delilah. Who kindly introduces herself right away. ”Hello, I'm Delilah and I'm going to serve as the villain in this video game. I'm super stereotypically evil and irredeemable, by the way! Enjoy!“

I think it was Carmack who once said that video games need a story as much as a porn film. No matter Bethesda's beef with him these years, whoever decided on how much narrative Dishonored 2 needs definitely agrees with that ethos.
Damn, was hoping to see a Mwahaha after your evil villain comment.

You sure might be correct about be laughing one day at the game story or lack there of. And while this isn't intended to piss you off, it might. I just have a beef with carmack and bethseda when they screw up needlessly, just like I do with myself. He also once said (paraphrasing since I don't want to look it up) "he didn't care what his fans thought, he was making games however he wanted". I my mind and others, he was needlessly arrogant about development, the way he built his engines (post quake II) and a near absolute failure at story telling. He basically mutinied and overthrew his own company from better and more qualified people pre Doom 3. The people who tried to tell him the world had moved on from the original Doom formula of jump scares and it was downhill from there.

people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in any country.

For me, knowing almost anything about a game or movie will spoil it. I have more imagination than most I guess. Knowing who the villain is, what the hero's goal is or what the intro/tutorial sequence is are definitely lessening my enjoyment.

DarkCntry, yes. They told the plot and the villain, in the PR release. The name of the villain, do you get it? No? Did you know the name of the villain in Dishonored?

NamecaF, it maybe true but what does it say about you, not even recognizing it's a spoiler? That you don't give shit about story or even more? Speaking as an idiot I wonder how that makes you feel, is it like fds who believes there's no story anymore? And is that because everything has been spoiled for you before you ever play the game?

Nin, sure there's going to be a villain just like Dishonored. Do you think, not knowing who the villain was in Dishonored, was part of the fun and impacted your enjoyment by trying to figure out the villain?

You're always making a mistake by having high expectations for anything.

Dishonored is a good game, but it's not that good... It's an 8. A lot of its components are mediocre.

So that's not a story spoiler in a PR release?

Not if you're read anything about the game in the last 6 months. I mean, you know there's going to be an antagonist, right? It's not just Emily and Corvo go to the park...

Whew, thankfully bethesda aren't a bunch of dumbasses who would post major spoilers of the game, in a press release.

What do you mean? I have reread the whole thing multiple times and there's not a hint of a spoiler in it. All it contains is a brief description of the non-interactive intro sequence at the very beginning of the game.

I think he somehow wasn't being sarcastic.

Hehe, nah, I was being sarcastic. Well a sarcastic idiot, if fds is correct. Let's see if I owe bethesda and the world an apology.

What I mean is...I read it once and it spoiled the story. Here's the quote, since apparently need to point it out.

...the mad witch Delilah seizes the throne the fate of your Empire is left hanging in the balance...

So that's not a story spoiler in a PR release? Remember just like millions of other gamers I still haven't played it. I'm not even sure what to say about fds's claim there is no story anymore. Apparently they are just levels for you to run around in. Not sure why bethesda didn't think of this before. They could have saved all the money paid for the stories, in their previous games!
Can you be spoiled by being told something that takes place about 10 minutes into the game, which is right after the tutorial sequence?

Ignoring the tutorial, it is literally the introduction sequence that starts the game proper, before you choose to play as Corvo or Emily. Or is that a spoiler too?

So yeah, he's an idiot. He even thinks Bethesda made it. They just released it. It was made by Arkane Studios.

But I agree the story is pretty bad. It's really weak compared to the first game, which is a real shame.

While it was "technically" quite good and I enjoyed all of the gimmicks of each level, Arkane definitely bad some very strange decisions with the sequel.

The worst of which was the (mis)casting and mediocre performances of the voice cast in my opinion. With the exception of Emily they were all entirely forgettable.

The Duke, Ramsey, Delilah and the new Outsider were all absolutely atrocious. Most of the performances were either embarrassingly "over-the-top" caricatures (when they should have been intimidating, menacing or serious) while others were just plain B-grade level bad!

And there were some big name actors too, like Vincent D'Onofrio and Sam Rockwell; Who are great actors, so they should have killed it!

And I know it was just fan service to use the voice actor from the original Thief games to voice Corvo Attano, but that dude cant act for shit... his performance was cringe-worthy.

You know, even Sokolov sounded worse in this one - and that was the same guy voicing him from the first game.

My bet is on abysmal directing. Either a straight up bad/inexperience voice director or it was all done separate to the game and the actors simply had no reference or idea of how they were meant to be interacting and sounding.

I really wish they had have stuck with the original voice actors from the first game too (eg. Meagan Foster, The Outsider). While Rosario Dawson did a good enough job, the Penguin guy was definitely bad.

It's like they decided to screw continuity and world building and just go all Hollywood and use "big names" even when the originals did perfectly good jobs last time.

Side-note: And was it just me who thought that Corvo and the Duke should have sounded more Mediterranean (Spanish or Italian accents)? You know, seeing as they're both native Serkonans and all.

All in all, it was a mixed bag. Which is a shame because I loved the original.

Not that there's anything to spoil with Dishonored 2 as there isn't really a story anymore, and that was somewhat of a surprise, because the original game did have one.
It's now a collection of fun sandbox stealth playground levels with only the barest hint of a story to provide an excuse for why you'd go there.
It was all right. I liked it well enough.

Whew, thankfully bethesda aren't a bunch of dumbasses who would post major spoilers of the game, in a press release. Just cause the majority of the world's gamers haven't played it yet due to performance and drm issues. Knowing they shouldn't ruin the game for everyone, they clearly succeeded. So I praise bethesda for not being moronic idiots, when they so clearly could have been. Congratulations on your success. Urk Protest

Pretty damn cool! I always welcome NG+ modes, and being able to combine both sets of powers is a nice addition.
