Out of the Blue

Went to the doctor this morning to pave the way for my annual physical. The actual check up is next week, but today I gave blood and urine (coincidentally the name of my best-selling punk rock album). This was a pretty pleasant process, as the doctor long ago cleared me to drink coffee in spite of the instructions to fast before the blood draw, which eliminates the biggest hardship of the process. And giving blood is a nice experience for someone who's always been as scrawny as I am, because it's the only time I get compliments on my arms, since it's so easy to find veins. Time for the gun show, baby!

Anyone who has ever stood beside a fucking diesel powered car knows that diesel is NOT cleaner. Sure, it may have fewer CO2 emissions, which helps with the greenhouse effects, but the nox emissions are through the roof, and that's (partially) why all these major cities in Europe (and elsewhere) are now suffering from all this god-awful smog.
I have to say I've always wondered about the talk about clean diesel because my experience is as you indicate, that it sure didn't seem clean. But I just figured my experience was limited and I've never bothered to investigate the situation.

You don't say? How's that 70% of all cars being "clean diesel" working out for ya there, Paris?

That's the fault of crooks like VW, not Paris.

Well, yes and no. Obviously VW are a bunch of fucking scumbags whose leadership deserves to see major jailtime (but never will. Fuck you, Ferdinand Piech, you piece of shit) and their actions have definitely contributed, but it was this fucking inane shift in Europe to get off petrol/gasoline and onto Diesel because it was "cleaner" that's to blame. The large majority of cars in Europe are diesel, and France was one of the highest diesel users in Europe.

really? europeans cities are choked with smog? that's surprising; i haven't seen anything in the news about a pollution problem over there.

also, isn't diesel's emissions balanced by the fact that they get like 60 mpg? i know i've seen top gear eps where they're riding around in upper crust sedans with crazy mileage.

Death (Metal) Troopers...that's awesome. They need to make a full length song/video for that immediately!

If Ned Flanders Metal Band (OKKILY DOKKILY) and Arnold Schwarzenegger metal band (Austrian Death Machine) can make it.. I don't see why Death Metal Stormtroopers can't..

Blue, do you listen to Oliva Newton John's Physical before your physical?

That's the fault of crooks like VW, not Paris. And it shows how good the Metro is to handle that sort of volume. Most cities couldn't handle that - and that's the problem. A great many systems are woefully underfunded and outdated.
