Yeah, it sets an awful precedent.
It will be interesting to see if the Rs change the Senate rules to prevent filibustering of SCOTUS nominations. If they don't it would put the Ds in an awful position. They can either play the same game and filibuster SCOTUS nominations until they get a reasonable one (or for 2 years when the mid-terms happen, which ever comes first). Or they can surrender and allow the court to get pushed even further to the right for the next 30 years. It would be a no win situation.
