Pence sure seems like a piece of work though. He'll likely be the one doing most of the work from behind the scenes and that's a hell of a lot more terrifying since it seems he has much more support from fellow Republicans.

I feel as though Trump doesn't believe most of what he says and instead just said it because "oh he says it like it is!" but Pence is a genuine nutbar.

Pence is pretty scary. Like "throw out the constitution and implement evangelical Christianity as state religion" level of scary.
Do you have a single fact to back that up?

Your fear of your son being bullied because he is an American sounds more like an indictment on Canada than America.

Canadians are not as warm and cheery as the rest of the world likes to think they are, at least not in BC. I love living here, but my son has to deal with much of the same BS I did as a kid growing up in NJ. It has just been surreal today, I keep hearing the word "Trump" echoing everywhere, never expected that would happen when I moved up here.

Good news is my son had a great day at school so our fears were unfounded. Just a weird day.

And like I predicted before, either way the Empire teeters on towards decline. The system may one day be built anew, one would hope but rock bottom may need to occur first. History merely plays itself it in the end while us fickle humans existing in each period, witness it.

Well the children have made their tantrum heard. I know the electorate has had enough with the insider political BS but electing Trump is the height of stupidity... and the sheer idiocy of the situation is their dysfunctional government is a direct result of the people they voted into power. All because Americans vote like their party is some kind of sports team. Every election it's basically a fifty fifty split regardless of what imbeciles the parties put forth... and now it seems elections are going to be solely decided on a popularity circus side show? Guess they should just stop pretending the general public is anything other then morons and just go with "Survivor White House" for the next cycle. It will at least be cheaper and faster.

Was watching BBC news after it broke that Trump had won and they showed the Russian state duma cheering and congratulating themselves. Says a lot that the happiest people in the world right now are Duterte and Putin. I'm going to remain optimistic as really no one but Trump knows what's coming, does he lean left or right? He might actually be a liberal who just pulled the biggest con job in republican history. Was funny to watch that crowd of his do a double take as he congratulated Hillary and said she deserves thanks for her service, got real quiet in that place.

The people he chooses for his cabinet is going to be the tell. Does he fill the positions with qualified people or his sycophants.

Ok here is my take on it.

I wanted Bernie. But settled for Clinton.

Here is why Clinton didn't win.

She got so power hungry, and lazy that as a Democrat (and the Democratic party) pushed Bernie out who was destroying Trump in every poll out there (granted the polls went tits up after the final debate), and didn't do enough to make sure all american's felt 'special', like Trump did.

Trump is a MASTER bullshitter. You don't have as many failures buisness and personally and still get the vast majority of a country to vote for you, even after all his shit.

You take a country of people who are sick and tired of being treated like shit, a democratic canidate who is in the pocket of wall street, and constantly ignore them.
When people get treated badly for so long they will latch onto the first hand that wants to pull them out of the shit pile, be it an angel or a demon.

Am I happy with the election? No. Do I understand why the USA voted for Trump? Yes.

Grow up. It is called democracy.

Hence why I am ashamed. Some dictator didn't force his way into power. There wasn't some coup.

This rancid cheetoh won fair and square because the majority of Americans are selfish, racist, and generally just bad human beings who are great at making self-defeating decisions. Net neutrality is dead. Roe v Wade is dead. Any hopes for real steps towards universal healthcare are dead. The war on drugs is alive and well.

And the most serious issue of our time, climate change, well, Trump doesn't believe it exists.

Do you have a single fact to back that up?

DNC let everyone down by simply picking Hillary because it was 'her turn'

The DNC didn't "pick" anybody. That's revising history. The leaked e-mails didn't show any mass conspiracy. In fact, there were e-mails both for and against Hilary.

The Democrat voters picked Hilary, and by a wide margin. Bernie only won in caucus states -- the ones most liable to party influence. In states that had a straight vote, Bernie got trounced.

Democratic voters only have themselves to blame. First they picked Hilary in the primaries, then they didn't bother to show up in the general. If as many Democrats turned up to vote as they did in the last presidential election, Trump would have been destroyed. Stop trying to blame the "party leaders" for your own choices.

Yup. Obama in '12 got 65M votes to Mitt's 59M. Hillary got 59M votes to Trump's 59M.

Oh has it now? What about the civil war, the holocaust of the native population, the slavery, the racial segregation, the great depression?
Are there shittier places in the world? Yes. But saying it has worked "better than any place else in the world" is a HUGE stretch.
But I'm not surprised since the "world" for most Americans still ends at the Atlantic (E), Pacific (W), Canada (N) and Mexico (S).

Personally I voted for Jill Stein as she made far more sense than any of the others and I expected a Hillary presidency. Personally I am taking a wait and see the direction Trump takes. He probably won't be more than a one term president unless miracles happen.

The funny thing, either Bernie or Joe Biden would have wiped the floor with Trump. It was the democrats fault for putting up a very weak candidate. Personally I thought her position on many of the important policies were worse than Trumps. So maybe the country dodged a bullet.

Holy shit. Bernie had been saying this since the primaries. If Hillary is the candidate for the democratic party that she would lose to Trump.

The DNC let everyone down by simply picking Hillary because it was 'her turn' instead of picking a candidate that energized young voters, even much more so than Obama did in '08. Instead they go with a candidate with endless baggage, the easiest target for even the worst candidates the Republicans could throw at them. And now we have Trump. Fuck the DNC. Spineless fucking idiots got what they deserved, and the rest of us will now pay for their corrupt bumbling. If anything, I'm glad that both the Democratic and Republican parties are somewhat in flames right now. as I join the swelling sentiment in this country that we desperately need to burn this fucker down.
