*ugh* Murphy is alive and well...

Bought 2 TB HDs to replace my current two disk Raid 1 setup.

The plan: Shutdown and open the case, hook one new drive up to a spare SATA connection, then boot and clone the existing drive/s to it, then shutdown again, replace the two old drives with the two new drives and let the raid do its' thing copying the freshly cloned drive to the other new drive.

Murphy's plan: Screw me by having the only open SATA connection on the motherboard next to the video card, and essentially under most of the power cabling. In order to connect, I'll probably have to remove the video card to give my hands enough room. What a freaking pain in the neck.

Congratulations! All of you have sufficiently reminded me why I want to avoid Win 10 if at all possible. So, new HDs, memory, and/or a video card to resolve my current PC issues.

Win 7 Forever! (or at least until MS creates another semi-reasonable OS)

I love Windows 10 and its App Store. How else will I be able to play Candy Crush in HD?

MS fired/let go/released from service/made redundant etc. an good chunk of their QA over a year ago. A lot of beta testing for win10 goes to targeted win10 customers.


As for win10 store games, I'd actually be tempted to pick up gears4 if I could buy the xbox1 disc and use that on win10 as well. Apparently, the only way you can play it on both platforms is to buy the digital version of the game via xbox1 store. A main reason I have a console guys is that I have a physical copy of the game. Otherwise, I'd just buy it on steam for the same or likely cheaper (within a few months).

You make some good points about Windows 10. It has a lot of good in it but the flat UI still sucks, the start menu is horribly ugly, and (as you stated) the biggest problem with Windows 10 is that it's always changing. Instead of putting a "gay" start menu back, Microsoft could have done something bold and put an Apple like application launcher across the bottom of the screen. Or the top or sides as well. Made it customizeable.

I have 2 systems. I run Windows 7 exclusively on one and Windows 10 on the other. The Anniversary Update hasn't effected me personally but it still makes the general point. Constant change is a constant pain.

There is no reason at all for me not to keep using Windows 7 to the death since I have 2 systems to do so. I can have my cake and eat it too.

Nonsense. Windows 7's ASLR implementation is far behind 8' and 10's. Even in Win8's case, security enhancements are more than worth putting up with whatever they do to the UI.

There is no real reason that your not being able to do that.

There are plenty of flavors of Linux and the different desktops, but if your switching from Windows then I would recommend KDE as that is the closest to windows compared to Gnome or Unity.

My personal favorite is opensuse with KDE, but choose as you please, from ubuntu with unity to fedora with gnome, its all free and all testable in a virutalbox on your windows install

Windows 10 Anniversary showed either Microsoft has completely incompetent QA, or no QA at all anymore! How can there be a change that breaks tens to hundreds of millions of devices. Including a majority of Webcam still on the market and they don't find the problem until after release?

This pure stupidity of "supporting" offline gaming in this way goes to show that no one at Microsoft has any brains at all anymore. Of course we already knew that when they didn't scrap the modern joke of an API.
