Well thats kind of fucked up.

It would take a lot of time by a lot of people to redo so many textures, which equals cost that would eat into the expect money from releasing on newer consoles. If Bethesda had better textures chances are they were used with their own "HD" update long since released.

That's unlike a programmer adding visual effects, it's work that can be used is all relevant situations, easy examples being lighting, shadows, and so on (pixel shaders).

So chances are virtually all, if not all, visual improvements over the original will be programming/effects related rather than artist/texture related. It's not at all surprising that the textures would be the "default" Skyrim textures.


Even I think it's understandable, the amount of work to redo the textures is excessive and time better spent on other projects. This release is far more about getting sales on newer consoles.

Though just because sales on newer consoles are the impetus for this update doesn't mean PC customers should be thanking consoles just yet as Bethesda could have simply and easily made a 64bit update for good old Skyrim on PC, an update which is now being held behind varying amounts of money to get.
