It's too bad that my gut says the Pixel will go over about as well as the Kindle phone because everything I have read and watched about the Pixel looks pretty damn good.

Hope my gut is wrong...I would like a new Android option.

The Kindle phone failed for 3 reasons:

1) It couldn't run most apps, which is a huge reason why people stick with Android

2) Its gimmick added cost but really gave no usefulness. The money spent on the front facing camera array would have been better spent on a form factor that didn't look like a budget phone

3) It was aimed solely around buying things on Amazon. Amazon overestimated how hard people find buying things on Amazon today

Jeff Bezos supposedly led design and had a say in every decision, brute forcing every decision, yet laid the team off. Nice.

The Pixel is just the new Nexus. No dumb gimmicks. No severely cut corners (waterproofing, arguably.) It'll be fine. It'll take share from HTC, LG and Sony (as if Sony has any to give) and instantly be the #2 phone, almost definitely doing better than the Nexus did. But it has no chance of overtaking Samsung yet.

How about a how long will the Google Pixel be supported and receive security updates from Google test?

Thanks, but we all knew the answer already. It was one thing when they charged $350, but at $650 it is a bit rich for a device that will be abandoned in two years. (2 years if you buy now, less for everyone else.)

Pandemics don’t end because the economy is suffering and we want them to.
