We're so far away from colonizing Mars. Let's invent an alternative to rocket technology first. Then we can start thinking about colonization.
VASIMR
Nuclear Pulse Propulsion
Ion Thrusters
Solar Sails
We've got lots of ideas (and some small-scale implementations). We need somewhere to go before anyone's going to want to dump big money into them.
None of which will get us off the planet. We need something that will get us off-planet for $100 a KG, not $10000, or whatever it costs now. Then we can build a ship that will take us safely to Mars using one of those optional propulsion systems.

Just wanted to advise people that are emulation/Zelda fans that Hypatia has released the final version of the Wind Waker HD mod that has been in the making for 4+ years now.
http://onthegreatsea.tumblr.com/
All textures are updated and it looks fantastic on the dolphin emulator (Recommended to use the Ishiiruka Build of dolphin, as it runs faster and has additional graphics/performance tweaking options)
Funny story about Wind Waker: My first playthrough of the game was in 2008 on the GameCube, and during that time the area that I live in had the largest flood ever recorded in this region. I'm now about halfway through my 2nd playthrough of the game and we are currently having the 2nd worst flood (so far) in this region's history. The nearby river just crested at 22ft today.
The Legend of Zelda is such a magical series <3

Oddly, this morning I watched an episode of "The Outer Limits" from 2000, "Decompression". In the episode Bruce Boxleitner plays a senator running for president. On a plane flight after winning a primary he is visited by "someone from the future". She appears as "projection", basically a 3-d hologram. She tells him she is there to save his life and tells him the plane has been damaged by a lightning strike. She tells him if he dies it creates an environment where "... a weak president does get elected, terrorism escalates, riots break out, the stage is set for a tyrant to emerge...".
LOL.
Tell me it was just a coincidence that episode was shown...

Manage to watch an hour of the debate last night before I had to turn it off or put my head through a wall to alleviate the pain of watching it. The fact that either of is where they are today, and one of them is actually going to be prez, absolutely boggles the mind. Boggles...the...mind!
I could only manage 30 seconds at a time before having to turn it off. It was even soul-crushingly depressing with the sound muted!
You know the situation in the country is getting seriously weird when an episode of Penny Dreaful seems more realistic than the presidential debate.
Seeing that you are Sauron, The Dark Lord Lord Of Earth, I would have thought you would revel in it.

I watched The Night Manager. In-depth review: it's very good.
