Battlefield 1 Maps and Modes Detailed

Battlefield Twitter account notes that EA has now revealed all the maps and game modes from Battlefield 1 (thanks GamesRadar). This post has a look at all the maps and this one covers game modes. This follows up on this post outlining things they learned from beta testing the World War I shooter. Here's word:
But what does this mean? Well, first off I’d like to talk to you about the Conquest game mode. When we build a new Battlefield game it’s important for us to try new things, we want to stay fresh and renew the franchise with each new installment. However, it’s equally as important that we take the feedback that you, the community, are giving us. That is why we're going to be making changes to the Conquest game mode ticket system for launch. The next time you play the game, capturing the objectives AND getting kills will both contribute towards the final score of a Conquest match. You have spoken, we have listened!

We have also been monitoring and listening to your comments in regards to the Rush game mode. It’s super exciting for us to bring back Rush for Battlefield 1, and we are aiming to make it the best Rush experience to date. We are making tweaks to the game mode as we speak with your feedback as the backbone to the entire process.

We're also looking into balancing other elements, including the weapons and vehicles. The Light Tank, which is a bit too effective in the Open Beta, will definitely receive some work, and we agree that Horses can take a few too many rounds at the moment. We've also learned through the Beta that you guys need more tools to deal with vehicles earlier, which we'll definitely look into (including a Gadget for the Support class which should help neutralize powerful vehicles).

Anyways, back on track here...

Did anyone else notice that they changed the conquest mode back to kills taking a ticket from the enemy team?

Also they're gimping the armor, and giving support a way to deal with heavy armor.

Sooo basically all the interesting design decisions that I actually enjoyed they're removing.

Just once I'd like to see them actually stick to their guns and release the game THEY designed, not the game designed by the most vocal 1% of users...

I LIKED that vehicles were an actual threat, and that you had to work together as a team to take them down. It was REFRESHING to not have another battlefield where the vehicles weren't just "crawling coffins" or "flying coffins" as my team used to call them...

And The ticket thing, I liked the new system, it made people PTFO, which is getting worse and worse with every wave of players new to the franchise. Oh well, back to everyone running around like chickens with their heads cut off I guess...

But it is a pub game, and just like their Star Wars skin game, no one takes down the walkers - so Rebels always lose. Same way with this BETA. You would get in a tank and go 50-1. That isn't a balanced game.

No, the issue is that your team never worked together to take down a tank. 3 infantry focusing a tank could take one out with great ease and efficiency.

So true, 3 was really the magic number. 2 would be able to almost kill a tank, but a skilled tank driver could outlast them indefinitely, 3 however... 3 AT rockets from across the map and you're at 20 veh health, with your tracks disabled in an instant.

It was a beta, no kidding people just didn't know how to play it, just like taking down the walkers in battlefront, same exact thing. I was playing SWBF yesterday (DeathStar...meh) and people are taking down walkers left right and center. It's the same probability of winning by defending as a Battlefield game, about 50/50, entire dependent on the team. aka, business as usual.

BF1 was shaping up to be something cool and unique, and now it's being pressed into the exact same mould as everything else. BEFORE FUCKING RELEASE!!!! ARAGHHH!!! Thats what fucking kills me.

I spent the entire beta in the BF official forums. It was fucking TROLLS, saying how everything needed to be changed, or they weren't going to buy the game. GUESS WHAT DICE!? They're not buying the game in the first place! There was at it's peak 10,000 users in a 24 hour period. The game will sell 10M copies at minimum. WTF ARE YOU DOING listening to literally 1% of your players, and fucking over the other 99%? WHYYYYY.

I should go find some excerpts from the asinine threads that were made, it's so awful, just the worst.

It was a beta, people are clueless in general. They are learning the map, the classes and many people didn't even have adequate AT unlocks or know how use to them. Hell there was a progression bug preventing people from unlocking the AT rocket for awhile. They can make some balance decisions after retail launches when things shake out a bit.

I'll be playing mostly Rush this time around, Conquest without people you know just isn't as fun.

Well that's a damn shame. The Beta made you work in teams to achieve the goal, now we're back to the land of snipers. Infact that's really sad to hear.

And for the record my original post wasn't meant to be demeaning, I was just trying to articulate how some people choose to view the past through rose-tinted glasses.

A 6-year old loves their mommy with the utmost fervor, and anyone who says that mommy isn't perfect is WRONG.

A grownup loves their wife by loving their strengths while accepting their shortcomings. It doesn't mean they love them any less, it means that they don't lie to their loved one while doing it. Real love is recognizing what's great, and what you can help improve, to grow together.

There, is that mushy enough for all you callow heartless husks on here?

Nothing has matched Rush in Bad Company 2 to date for me. BF3 and BF4 both had it but it just wasn't the same and I'm not really sure why.

Bad Company 2 was, by far, my favorite Battlefield. You earned everything. There was no "I'm too lazy to just play the game" cash shop and no obnoxious "Season Pass" bullshit. I couldn't get into BF3 and I gave BF4 a miss completely.

Loving something like a grown up requires recognizing what was good and bad about them. No prone-ing, no strafing while sprinting, servers capped at 32 players, there was a lot that the Bad Company series left to be desired if you're being honest.

And furthermore, do you actually know a single human being who's actually purchased a weapons upgrade pack? I don't. And If I did I wouldn't hate them for it, just feel bad for them that they obviously don't have enough time to enjoy unlocking things as per normal. Either way, it doesn't affect my enjoyment of the game one bit.

And BC2 kinda sucked because it only had one DLC, it was a GREAT one however, but only 4 maps. I had a lot of love for BC2, and would have wished that they'd support it with additional content. After BC2 Vietnam got stale, there was a void in my FPS playtime that wasn't really being filled with anything.

Supporting a game with extra content isn't a bad thing, I know this is a crazy notion. It's giving the people who love the game more stuff to love. And if you don't love the game, then you're not missing out. How is there still a discussion about this? People act like the 3-4 times that console games included DLC on the vanilla game-disc is the norm, and that any additional maps were just "cut" from the vanilla game. It's a strawman argument. Expansion packs have been around for literally decades.

Loving something like a grown up? Ease up Dr. Phil...

Many of us grown ups here grew up with the battlefield series. However, there are plenty of gamers out there that feel battlefield didn't grow up with them and they site BC2 as the last official offering.

BC and BC2 helped the frostbite engine enter the game. I would imagine hardware and their engine optimizations at the time would have made it more difficult to do a full blown large scale BF, so they made a small and tight game. What they did right is focus on gameplay and they nailed it, it was fun. This was the last game where DICE pretty much had full control of their game.

Next, EA has fully bought out DICE and controls the next development cycle. Since then, many of us feel the series has taken too much of a casual approach.

A solution for this would be mod tools. How about BF 2 mechanics, with maps being 2-3 times larger in scale and 100 people? How about a Project Reality HD remake? So much potential with the Frostbite engine, so little explored.

Mod tools would ensure every man and child had their respective gaming needs met.

So the total spin-off series was the "last official offering"?

-no commander
-4 man squads
-servers capped at 32
-conquest was an afterthought
-no prone-ing
-no jets
-no parachutes
-reviving "brought back in BC2" after being absent in BC1

Nothing about that sounds like an "official" battlefield offering, if you compare it to BF1942, BF2, 2142, BF3 and BF4. Also, frankly, it all sounds WAY more casual.

I'm not saying they weren't fun, they were great fun, but if you're saying that the game that brought us the Gustav wasn't casual, and BF3 and BF4 with their standard BF features like commanders, 64-man servers, conquest as a focus, jets, parachutes, prone, bigger squads, and reviving IS casual? Then I don't think that even Dr. Phil could help you.

Hope I didn't just wake everybody asleep here. I laughed so hard when I read that Dr. Phil line I may have woke a neighbor.

When I read the title of the first map, Ballroom Blitz, I laughed because I had a flashback to when I was a young boy in Germany. And I had to wondered if the developers where Sweet fans?

I'm down with BF1 even if they nerf the Light Tank... which I feel they should just leave as is. A tank should take a bit of effort to take out. A tank should be feared. A tank should be powerful.

By Odin's Ravens... look at those map screenshots... gorgeous.

I am getting abnormally pumped for this game... I hope they don't fuck it up too much with release day bugs and other classic EA/DICE issues.

Hypothesis: Ballroom Blitz will be the new Metro, for massive spamming and grinding infantry unlocks. Oh well.

Game modes sound fairly interesting, but no doubt I'll end up spending the vast majority of the time playing Conquest. Most other game modes end up relying too much on not having a team full of random asshats, ignoring objectives completely.

War Pigeons, that mode sounds like it'll be even more of a clusterfuck than Obliteration mode was in BF4, probably in a fun way at first, then the servers will be completely empty in a week.

I'm a little surprised so many of you guys have such fond memories of BC2... BF1942 was where it was at for me. Such a massive change from previous FPS games, so epic, so ridiculous...every BF game afterwards just felt like a bit of a let down in comparison, to me at least.

we still dont have the squad and commander as good as bf2

in an attempt to fill the bf1 void i grabbed battlefront with the recent sale... uggh i played a round of death star and refunded

maybe it gets better with unlocks but it just aint there for me

also, we were talking about RUSH yesterday...

https://www.bluesnews.com/cgi-bin/board.pl?action=viewthread&boardid=1&threadid=174841

In short, the fact is that in BC1 and BC2, Rush was the primary game mode, it's what the maps were built around. That's why rush was so great in those games. When you smoosh a rush mode into a map that was primarily designed for conquest, it's not quite the same.

My point in the post above is that this *could* be a return to form for having the rush-like objective gamemode as the primary focus, as "operations" seem to be a big deal.

Well, read up on the "operations" game mode, it seems like the new "UBER RUSH", across multiple maps. This seems like the most ambitious gamemode (You can see the last map you fought over on the horizon), so it could be that the bulk of the map design is based around this mode.

Could be very neat.

The new game modes sound interesting, as do the map descriptions. I'm particularly intrigued by the close quarters maps. Aside from Bad Company 2 being pretty great all around, some of the most fun I had was on the close quarters maps for the DLC of the same name in BF3.

I'm looking forward to late October!
