Shadow Warrior 2 Video

A new video from Shadow Warrior 2 offers a look at gameplay from the marital arts shooter sequel that's due one month from tomorrow. This looks to inspire preorders as the 12 minutes of gameplay includes highlights of the razorback chainsaw katana that will come with preorders. That basically spoils the description, which reads, "Coming to Steam, GOG, and Humble October 13! Preorder now and receive the Razorback chainsaw katana and get 10% off!"

Yup, I'd say hate. I found the monsters and the weapons to be outright terrible. It's all opinion, but I'd put them in the bottom 10% of shooters I've played.

Congrats! You've become part of a minority!

I mean, ok? I never said it was a bad game, and I used "my opinion" and "I'd" repeatedly.

Should my opinion bow to the majority? Is that how this works? Is this some kind of popularity contest I'm failing because I disliked a game most reviews tended to find average?

I pretty much only played it because of the stupid jokes. I heard the first few phrases like "who wants some wang" with that douchey voice and I was hooked. The game didnt disappoint in that aspect till the end. The gameplay itself could have been better, but I liked the sword and I dont think I ever switched weapons more often than in this game, which was kinda fun.
I have given up on waiting for BIS to come back to their senses and do a real ArmA 2 successor.

Hated the last one, hated Hard Reset, thinking I need to finally learn my lesson.

I hated Hard Reset too, but really like Shadow Warrior. I'm curious, why didn't you like it?

Honestly, even though I played it in February, and it took me a month to finish, I barely remember it, but:

* Hate...

I think that calling anything in this game terrible is not right... Could they be better? Sure, but everything was good or at least passable. I think that weapons and monsters were better than in most shooters. Do you really think hate is the right word for how you felt about the game? If so, I don't get it. I can definitely say that upgrades mattered though. It was a reason to explore the levels. The game has tons of cool secrets. Also, weapon upgrades made a major difference... I mean you can quadruple the shotgun barrels...

Honestly, even though I played it in February, and it took me a month to finish, I barely remember it, but:

* Weapons felt terrible to me. Terrible. The Uzi was the only gun I liked, but having to hold down a separate button to do akimbo was frustrating. I'm pretty certain you ran faster than the rockets

* Enemies just weren't fun. The most fun were the human cops, who you fought about twice

* The boss pattern was annoying. Typical, but annoying. Here's a boss. Now he's two of that boss. Now here's two of that boss with other enemies around. Now here's two of them with other bosses around. Now here's everything at once. The bosses just weren't fun and doing that compounded the not-fun

* If I had to fight the guys who were only vulnerable from behind one more time...

* I played through primarily to finish upgrading the kitana. The final form was underwhelming

* Basically, all upgrades struck me as dull. Upgrades to your character were kind of pointless, other than probably the stab. Upgrades to the weapons felt equally pointless

Interesting this seems to be going a sort of ARPG route. I'm interested. It looks fun. Co-op should keep it alive for a while.

Looks pretty good, I think you guys a nitpicking a bit much. The first one was low budget and ended up being entertaining, this looks like a better version of the first game, ie. ideal sequel.

I doubt I'll preorder, but I'll get it on sale at some point.

Muscular Beaver's 'equally loud sounds' comment is fair, the first game sort of had the same issue, if I recall. Didn't make it unplayable though.

Isn't this new one supposed to have full campaign co-op too? I'm looking forward to trying it just for that reason providing the rest of the game is at least half decent.

Pretty underwhelming.
What really bothers me is the "clusterfucking" of sounds. In a fight you just hear so many equally loud sounds mixed together, which just hurts your ears and makes the weapons seem weak, since they dont have a distinct and powerful sound. They did the same shit in Doom too. Dont let this be a new thing...

I gotta say this doesn't look that impressive. Two things stand out, the numbers on monsters looks immersion breaking but maybe there is a way to turn that off in the game? Also the HUD. It looks like there is none, so how exactly are we to judge how much health we got left?

There's a HUD. It's been in several videos. Not in this one for some reason. So you're saying that it's not impressive because there's no HUD and there's numbers?

Need more? The animations look stiff and wonky, the demons are almost unrecognizable blobs of color that seem like bullet sponges. Wang seems immortal too. The graphics don't seem all that great in general, with all that haze and stuff, but that could all be also down to this being showcased on a console? Who knows, maybe the gameplay is great on the PC but this video sure as hell doesn't sell it.

It's running on PC. Wang seems to be in god mode here. It's clearly meant to look cool and cinematic. That's why they disabled the HUD. If you want real gameplay, there's tons of 10-20 min videos out there. You die pretty quick if you don't pay attention. As for your other points, I dunno, I either disagree of find that you're way too harsh for some reason.

I'd be surprised if there wasn't a way turn off the numbers.

Also, I got an additional 10% off for owning the first game so I got it from Steam at 20% off.

Good news is I can refund if by some odd quirk of fate this turns out to be a bad game. I highly doubt that though so I think I got a decent deal.

This is a decent dev so I can break my "no pre-order" rule for them this once.

Also, this game comes out on PC first and on consoles later. Not sure the console date is even announced. That's something I can encourage...
