Star Citizen Gamescom Presentation

This video offers the Gamescom presentation for Star Citizen. Or as the tortuous description reads, "Here's the LIVE version excerpt of our upcoming game play demo from our Gamescom 2016 presentation." The clip runs a whopping 52 minutes, showing gameplay recorded live from the show stage. During the presentation, Chris Roberts says to expect version 2.5 of the early access space game next week. He also reveals that version 2.7 is expected by the end of September, and version 3.0 should come by the end of October.

1. Most of us are tired of complaining about a game that is still in the Alpha phase.
2. The new Metallica video dropped and it is AMAZING! Who can be mad at a time like this?

Hahaha and all the gullible clowns are falling for the flashy CIG circus once again... "wooooow d00d that looks impressive!!!1111!!".

Gaaawdd... Rolleyes Rolleyes Rolleyes

Here's a simple exercise: Head to YouTube and go back to all the flashy trailers and omfgsosuperexciting reveals from 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015. Then participate in the next free fly weekend and compare. Then judge for yourself with regard to the discrepancy between the marketing crap and the real world delivery.

Incredible that people are still falling for the flashy shit after all these years... Rolleyes

Weren't they saying that Squadron 42 was coming out this year? During Gamescom did they tell the status of the game?

CR did that in the pitch video, years ago. He used a 360 pad.

Looks pretty good so far, although some questions are still there:

How pay to win has the game become, with people buying $5000(USD) ships, being in the same universe as people who are still in the intro clunker ship? They got 3000 credits(each? to split?) for that one mission, so how many credits for a ship that can take on a backer-real money ship? 10 million? 100 million? How much grind is planned for the Persistent Universe?

When the one player looted the yellow bike-ship, did BOTH players 'earn' it on their account? Did they earn it permanently at all?

Player hp vs small arms seems insanely high, boringly high. Needs an adjustment from a FPS fun perspective. Or maybe that's already planned, who knows.

Real world space style elevators and doors are cool for 5 minutes, how boring will that shit get though after a few weeks or months of gameplay? Aka fast travel to ship from the bottom of a base, etc.

Some aspects of the game look ripe for trolling, they mentioned they already changed how docking works, hopefully the rest of the game is designed to prevent people tying up the game for others? Killing or locking up important NPCs, jamming elevators or doors with boxes, or whatever.(not counting PKing, etc.)

All those things can be answered eventually of course, just trying to picture the minor details that could turn into real headaches on release.

Still, I'm actually interested now. I could see myself buying this game before it hits the $9.99 bargain bin level.

Perhaps I missed it, but where is the "starship combat" in this starship combat game? All I saw (gameplay-wise) was the Crytek Engine doing what it does best (near the end): FPS. Where's the persistent universe with 100s of starships duking it out?

Yeah I really only talk about Star Citizen here, because I know that people here, aside from a couple folks, are fairly reasonable. I don't dare utter word one of skepticism about Star Citizen on reddit or elsewhere because I don't want to be doxxed and swatted.

The absolutely Scientology-like behavior of the fanbase is one of the main reasons I cashed out and sold my lifetime insurance ship package for a profit.

I couldn't get away with asking "What's the gameplay loop?" on some of the more mainstream sites, that's for sure.

You actually believe they are quiet because they are waiting to judge a final product fairly? cereal? Have you not read past SC threads over the years? those guys patient and fair?

"Shitizens" lose all sense of morality and rip anyone who voices even fair concerns about "their" game to pieces with stuff like I described above or even death threats. And people think the EVE Online community is toxic. LOL.

Eh, looks alright. The crowd going wild over things like ladders popping out and people getting out of their ship is kinda cringey though.

I'm still waiting to see when the actual gameplay is implemented.

All private backers havent invested to reach a maximum of potential consumers. And there are no traditional investors, who just want to make money.

Companies often use controllers in public presentations, because staff can easier and faster react to the presenter. Visitors of the booth played the current alpha with M/K and Joystick setup.

IDK, I think to many people are to easily impressed. I really didn't see anything about this that blew me away. To many people are in a hurry to praise what they are seeing, but the reality of it is, hes had 5 years to make this game so far. And this is all he really has to show for? Those of us who originally backed this game are getting very I'm patient with him.

Don't count me among the many who are ready to bow down to him. Everything I've seen here No Mans Sky is already doing.

Even if they "finish" the game, with so many systems there will be tons of bugs. And some bugs just rip the joy out of a game. I'm not impressed with tech demos that take months to create for shows.

I skimmed through the video, and I will say that it looks very impressive. I do hope there will be a way to turn off the motion blur, though, as it's pretty intrusive.

But it's starting to look really good.

Even from the first videos while the KS was going on, they were using console controllers.

I'm beginning to think they may be skewing in that direction, yeah. It was easy to ignore consoles when they simply had nowhere near the power to run this (even the final, optimized version), but perhaps NEO, and most likely Scorpio, WILL have the power to run it, so why not spend a bit of money to reach more customers.

Makes sense to me.
