PC No Man's Sky Three Day Delay; Server Wipe Plans

Accompanied by two apologies, Sean Murray of Hello Games tweets an announcement that No Man's Sky will come on August 12th. This was due on the 9th alongside the PS4 version of the space game. He says, "PC NMS release will now be global and will be August 12th worldwide. It's so important we get it right and make the best version we can." On a related note, Harry Denholm tweets a server wipe is coming on Sunday, which should reduce the impact of early leaked copies. Thanks GameInformer.

Spoiler alert! At the center, you find a decoder ring and a message that says, "Be sure to drink your Ovaltine."

Oh I thought it was God in the need of a space ship.

Should just rename it to No Man's Game since they just won't release the dumb thing already.

It's going to be a buggy hot mess at release with most likely plenty of connection to server issues to go around.

I watched some of the leaked gameplay, didn't show more that what they've already have shown with their own play through videos and that's to say, it still looked rather boring. It's a tech demo trying really hard to be a game. The sound seemed rather annoying, especially their ambient background sound effects.

I dunno, I saw some neat hooks like learning the alien language, finding out who they are, finding out who built the sentries, what's at the center of the galaxy. And all the crafting looks cool. It'll be annoying to have to recharge all your devices at first, but that's motivation to build better devices that don't need to be recharged often, if at all. If I get 30-40 hours out of a run, I'm good. That's typically what I get out of Elder Scrolls or Fallout, and I do a run through every few years. Watching these leaked gameplay vids made me more interested in playing this than the official vids, which just showed off the engine and the proc gen.

Also, ouch, server wipe, that 1 guy spent $1300 on the game to play early.

That smells like a Star Shitizen backer from a hundred miles away...

I'll grab it for sure in a year or so when it's in the bargain bin but no chance in hell I'm paying full price for it.

Oh, yeah, defintely not paying full price. For me, this is probably about a $20 game. Still, I think it looks pretty cool.

Still looking forward to picking this game up from the bargain bin for $9.99.

Also, ouch, server wipe, that 1 guy spent $1300 on the game to play early. Of course he already got to the center, so maybe he already uninstalled and is looking for his next overprice early release.

I don't see them doing this ever again. They're just doing it this time because some people got in early, and they want everyone to start at the same time.

Then why are they wiping the servers on Sunday and releasing the game on Thursday?
Don't start tossing logic into this rabbit hole, it's deep.
I will never twit but the link for Harrys wipe would not open, here it is https://twitter.com/HarryDenholm/status/761669788380921856

7th (Sun): Wipe
9th (Tue): PS4 Release
12th (Fr): PC Release

Perhaps 2 days to test the fresh universe and make sure it is ready for the official release. I don't know if PS4 players and PC players share a universe.

(Plural of axis is axes and if that [gender-neutral] bit was a jab at me, well played )

Was wondering when they'd announce the 3-day 'delay'. It's been changed on the 'About' page of the website for nearly two weeks now. Some sites, can't remember the name - PCGamesN or PC-something-games-whatever was putting it in every article they wrote about NMS. Then you'd get the fanbois all trudging in calling it a lie and how dare they! It's just a typo, must be!

Eh, whatever. I was really looking forward to this since it's reveal and I was hyped but when no concrete word on actual game mechanics came forth and then the leaked gameplay...it looked like an X3-lite or Elite-lite. Cool, no doubt, but where's the beef, man?! I'm gonna enjoy leveling up the ship and flying to different worlds, at least they have a good hold on that. But...I dunno. *sigh* I've been playing alot of Empyrion lately to keep my mind occupied until NMS's release and when I look at the two side by side, I find that while NMS might be more polished, more stable and optimized and more stylized, Empyrion let's me not only go from planet to planet, mine, craft and level-up but I can build, build, BUILD! Whatever I want! My base, my ship, sky's the limit, so to speak (it's actually not because you can build in spaaaaaace! too). This is not a feature in NMS and I think if it had it, this game would be the ultimate space-trading-combat-crafting-building-rogue_like game out there.

Some criticize Fallout4 for pretty much shoehorning in base building and crafting but the result was rather nice and unique. Had NMS been able to have building, your ship, your base, your own colonies, maybe EVE-style spaaaaace! corporations?! Yes, please! Sadly, it doesn't look like this first version of NMS will have any of that. Maybe the sequel? Because you know damn well no matter how good or bad this sells, they're gonna try it again.

On a side note, I agree that some of the sounds in this game are downright irritating AF! Like the mining laser?! Holy shit on a shingle, Bat[gender-neutral]! They need a new sound for that! Who the hell thought that was a good sound for it anyway?! Geezus. Take some of that Sony money and hire a good sound effects studio!

I'm still gonna play the living shit out of this though, no matter what. It can be my Elite fix when I don't feel like hooking up the two gamepads, rudder pedals (using my Logi G25 pedals), and fine tuning a hundred and one different inputs, commands and ax-eye...ax-eee? Axises? Axis'? *throws hands up* whatever, you know what I meant!

People are going to be so disappointed. I predict a game that is a mile wide but an inch deep. The next Spore. I have seen people play it and I don't get the attraction. Also I hope they have a good list of banned words for when people start naming things.

I've seen a few reviews from peeps who manage to snag a copy and they're all saying the same thing. Shallow sandbox game that's all just variations on the same theme. There's zero reason to do anything other than just to do it. Collect enough crap to upgrade some stuff, rinse, repeat. Blue florps on Planet X, Red florps on Planet Y. One guy called it a walking simulator in space. Said it was a great game if you just want to have a few beers and fly/walk around looking at stuff but there isn't really anything to do per se, at least nothing that means anything. Which is what I thought it'd be. First several hours of the game will be the 'Ooh ahh neato' factor then it's all 'Meh bleh, been here, done that, got the T-shirt.' I'll grab it for sure in a year or so when it's in the bargain bin but no chance in hell I'm paying full price for it.

Are they going to do routine server wipes? If so, what is the point of the game then? Spends thousands of hours wandering the galaxy just to have them wipe it out and start over?

The mental gymnastics over the last two weeks on the subreddit have been hilarious for those of us with an affinity for schadenfreude. If it turns out to be a 7.1/10, that cluster of internet may collapse upon itself.
