Activision Blizzard Financials: 15M Overwatch Players

Activision Blizzard Announces Better-Than-Expected and Record Second Quarter 2016 Financial Results. These include strong growth and a record billion dollars in digital revenue for the quarter. Here's a rundown of revenue, "On a Non-GAAP (as previously defined) basis, the company’s net revenues were a Q2 record $1.61 billion, as compared with $759 million for the second quarter of 2015, an increase of 112%. Non-GAAP (as previously defined) net revenues from digital channels were an all-time quarterly record of $1.40 billion, up 76% quarter-over-quarter and 129% year-over-year. Non-GAAP (as previously defined) earnings per diluted share were a Q2 record $0.54, as compared with $0.13 for the second quarter of 2015, an increase of 315%. Note that we are providing these Non-GAAP (as previously defined) measures for comparability one last time this quarter." Here are some highlights, including word that over 15 million gamers are playing Overwatch:

Audience Reach

  • Activision Blizzard had 491 million Monthly Active Users (MAUs) in the quarter.
  • Blizzard had the biggest quarterly online player community in its history, with MAUs of 33 million, up 29% quarter-over-quarter and 13% year-over-year. This reflects the successful launch of Overwatch® and strength across the broader portfolio, including Hearthstone®: Heroes of Warcraft™, which had record quarterly MAUs, and World of Warcraft®, which had double-digit MAUA growth quarter-over-quarter and year-over-year.
  • On May 24, 2016, Blizzard launched Overwatch which now has over 15 million players globally, including box and digital sales, internet game room players, and multi-user console households. In China, Overwatch broke the previous record set by Diablo® III as the fastest-selling PC game in the market’s history. Overwatch also currently holds the number one position in Korean Internet Game Rooms with over 30% share of play time.
  • Activision had the biggest second quarter online player community in its history, with MAUs of 49 million, up 11% year-over-year. Activision continues to have four of the top ten games on current-generation consoles life-to-date, including Call of Duty®: Black Ops III at No. 1.
  • King MAUs of 409 million declined in the quarter as expected due to seasonal trends and launch timing. King had three of the top-15-grossing titles in the U.S. mobile app stores for the tenth quarter in a row.

I have never attacked anyone personally as you did with this post. The reason? This site's basic ground rules. It establishes basic decorum and etiquette when conversating with others. Unfortunately, those rules have been broken more than a few times in replies directed towards me. This site should maintain its high standards and never tolerate people calling others "mentally unstable." It is a form of "griefing" and an "attack of a personal nature".

I pointed out a pattern of unhealthy behavior and was careful not to specify the posters so they didn't feel singled out. If you felt this was directed at you specifically perhaps that says something about the posts you're making and the guilty conscience you harbor about them. An unhealthy opinion that calls other people fanboys for disagreeing with them is fucking bullshit and deserves to be called out. No one gets to be a dick like that then hide behind forum rules afterward. I will not be censored by anyone except the site owner so its really none of your concern anyway.

But seriously, what did you expect from two of the worst astro turfers on this board? An open mind and logical reasoning? It's all about the attention and outbursts. Every video game is the best or worst thing ever. Every minor situation requires a soapbox. Disagreements are personal vendettas. You're dealing with the mentally unstable, remember that.

Do you feel hurt in any way or that you may possibly be 'triggered' if this keeps up? Griefing, no matter how small (including the exploitation of a "perfect jab opportunity" towards others for misspelling words), is strictly against the rules. Online bullying is the #1 cause of rollerblading, after all. Don't be that guy.

There's a HUGE difference between:

and

"You're dealing with the mentally unstable, remember that."
"I get it now, you're a wealthy twit that hates poor people. Another hypocritical christian, you're proof that's one messed up cult."

But I have to admit I've have had a strong urge to take up rollerblading in the past few days. I'm trying not to be that guy. *shivers*

Heh, I was just kidding. I didn't look at the past comments nor do I know (or care) what the context is for any of that.

Good luck with the 'blading!

What does this make me to you two braniacs?
Claiming/implying fanboyism for the success of a game you haven't even tried.

You know, sometime I will purposely misspell certain words just to see who the grammar Nazis are. I guess you just passed the test.

Considering you didn't write the original post and also considering Sepharo wasn't inducing a grammar nazi "trap" (which, is just petty if you actually do that), it was a perfect jab opportunity, given the word used.

Have absolutely no desire to play Overwatch and Hearthstone. Nor Diablo (do not like the subject matter). Nor Heroes of the Storm (it bores me). And my WOW sub is pretty much coming to an end. Don't care for Legion (it's more of the same). I have the complete StarCraft 2 game that I can barely bring myself to play (I find it boring).

I guess what I'm saying is Blizzard no longer makes games that appeal to me.

I feel the same way, but try telling that to the 15 million other idiots who drank Blizzs Cool aid.

So Dark and edgy.

The obvious implication being that people who enjoy Overwatch are now the idiots who drink Blizzard Kool-Aid.

Can't believe you actually took that post seriously. The smiley should have made that point crystal clear.

Uh... well, seeing as how I was talking about my taste in games I don't know how you can confuse "I guess what I'm saying is Blizzard no longer makes games that appeal to me" to mean you.

Here's a post of yours in this thread before my reply...

Really hoping they get Warcraft II available for download and working on modern PCs. I installed WC 3 last week and it took some tweaking to get the videos to work correctly. My WC2 discs are buried in storage somewhere.

They were talking about that a blizzcon or two ago, and not much since. With this mornings rumor of a HD starcraft, I'm disappointed it's not WC 1-2+DP.

Exact opposite. And I was pretty hyped on the beta for OW but burned out after launch in just a few weeks. I was just hoping for another TF2 I could sink a thousand hours into and the thought of sinking a thousand hours into OW makes me want to puke, so I just haven't touched the game in at least a month.
