Quake Champions Gameplay Trailer

Bethesda.net has a new Quake Champions trailer that debuted today at QuakeCon. The clip features the first look at gameplay from the upcoming first-person shooter. Here's the description:
id Software Studio Director Tim Willits took to the stage at QuakeCon 2016 to debut the first Quake Champions gameplay trailer. Packed with blazing-fast action and explosive rocket jumps you know and love, get first look at the game’s Champions – including new characters and franchise favorites.

In true Quake fashion, you’ll have an arsenal of powerful and unique weapons, each of which will feel familiar to long-time Quake players. There’s no loadouts, and no limit to the amount of guns you can carry. Quake Champions will be going into closed beta in 2017, so it won’t be too much longer before you’ll be able to get your hands on the heart-thumping arena-style FPS and see for yourself just how fast it is, running at 120hz with unlocked framerates.

That DM6 definitely has new routes. On the far side of the map where the jump pad to the grenade launcher and tall square columns? That has a new path on along the wall, right? And the other side of that area looks like a completely different layout.

But hey, I guess it could be closer than I think.

Oh yeah, there's definitely new routes. It's not just the same levels with new graphics. For example @ 0:26 in the video, you can see the infamous bridge to rail jump area has a 2nd corridor along the left side now, opposite of where the railgun was previously on dm6.

This looks better than I thought it would. Saw the re-created Q3DM6, along with a couple other maps I can't remember the names of (2 from Q3, one from Q2) but I definitely recognize the layout on them. Does big fan service to put veteran players in familiar territory, but hopefully doesn't detract new players from getting into the game with how undoubtedly good a lot of players will be on these maps already. It's all about getting that new blood in.. something Quake has largely failed to do for over a decade now.

loved the fact that was totally DM6 form Q3 ;-)

You know I thought it was too, but the more I looked it I realized it wasn't. It has some familiar elements but I don't think it's the same layout. Or if it is it has been heavily modified (layout wise).

Looks pretty ugly to me. Maybe it wasn't recorded on high settings.

This doesn't look like it's using the same engine as Doom. Saber Interactive is making the game.

Doom and quake are still high speed, you need to play a reasonably small level, go load up quake - proving grounds, 1v1. The sense of speed is just how I remember it.

Good, now please make another Quake singleplayer game like this and I'm in.

Looks like crap... sorry to say. Back when quake/doom/etc were released they were pushing the envelope. Then fps games backslid and focused on cinematic set pieces for more then a decade. FPS gameplay has stagnated, reaching it's pinnacle in UT2004.

This doesn't look interesting.

When quake live was announced I thought it was going to be a real quake 3 arena sequel but we got repackaged quake 3.

So, yeah, this is Quake. Now we need to see how they're going to make this relevant and addictive. Because, let's just say, I've played Quake before...

Perhaps my memory of Quake 3 has it faster than it really is? I relatively recently played some of the original Unreal Tournament and was quite shocked how much slower it was to my memory (though, of course, not as slow as the majority of modern FPSes).

The only oldschool FPS I play regularly is the original Doom, so I'm always basing shooters off the speed of that.

Looks... promising.

Needs to be faster, though.

Looks just as fast as Quake 3 to me and I have recently played Quake 3 and Quake Live.

This is what the multiplayer for Doom should have been.

I absolutely can't wait for this. I'm still hoping for a singleplayer Quake game at some point though.

My thought as well. Given how unexpectedly great Doom 2016 was, this is officially on my radar now.

Yeah, ok. I'm on board now. Looks great, looks smooth as all hell. Gory as hell, and rocket jumping. YAY. Also, gibs. Lots of gibs. Looks like they are pulling maps from Quake 1-3, which is great.
