Planetoids DLC for Stellaris

Paradox Interactive now offers Planetoids, a new species pack for Stellaris, their sci-fi grand strategy game. A new trailer shows off what this first DLC pack adds to the game. This can be picked up on the Paradox store, where there is also currently a 20%-off sale on the Standard, Nova, and Galaxy editions of the game. Here are the details:

Paradox Interactive, a publisher and developer with deep roots in strategy gaming, today released Plantoids, a new species pack for Stellaris, the sci-fi grand strategy game from Paradox Development Studio. Stellaris, a game that allows players to find their place in the stars as an empire at the dawn of space exploration, can now be expanded with Plantoids, a new in-game phenotype featuring plant-like lifeforms. Plantoids includes fifteen new species portraits, a set of new templates for plant-styled civilian and military ships, and new art for the Plantoidsí terrestrial cities. The new species pack is available today for Stellaris players on Windows, Mac, and Linux PCs for $7.99.

It's Plantoids, not Planetoids. It's about plants, not planets.
Thanks Captain Obvious. It's probably safe to assume that if no one brought it up by comment 12 that there's no need to mention it. We'd rather Blue bring us more gaming goodness than fix his typos.

It's also a criticism of a space game selling us fucking plant avatars as DLC instead of making something worth buying.

You'd have to be an idiot or rich to buy this DLC at this price.
It adds a little portrait ffs!
And don't tell me the devs have to eat! They can make good content to sell instead of this horsedung.

I have a lot of paradox games. I tried Stellaris, but found it lacking compared to distant worlds.

I agree with others, they should have waited and put this into a major dlc, it just isn't worth buying separately.

Considering the amount of time you get out of their DLC's compared to say a few hours at a bar, I really don't see them as nickel and diming.
Well, at a bar I at least have the chance to get laid. No chance with this DLC.

They're keeping their people employed and they spend a lot of time on improving all their games so over all I think Paradox is one of the best out there.
That's true, but I think it's a value proposition. I'd gladly pay $20-30 for a true expansion with new factions, units, techs, government types, trading commodities, diplomacy options, etc. Something that changes the complexion of the entire game. $8 for a single faction seems a bit nickelish IMO.

Yeah, which is $7.99 in 2016 dollars.

I've been looking to get into a 4x space grand strategy game but i'm not quite sure where to jump in. From what I've read DW:U is mind boggling huge but you can let the A.I. handle what you don't understand/want to deal with. Stellaris is not as huge, still has a few bugs, and the mid-game can drag. I'm looking for a 4x that has good enemy A.I. but the different alien races actually have character. I've heard that you can't really go wrong with Galactic Civ. 3 also. I dunno, kinda confusing

I saw a lot of critic regarding middle and late game. Has any of that been adressed since launch? I am sort of eagerly waiting to get into this game until then.

I have every DLC for CK2, EU4, HOI3 , Victoria 2, etc, I basically have every grand strategy paradox game. I've spent well over a thousand dollars on their games, I've helped put their employee's kids through college. The ONLY thing I don't like is their minor asset dlc policy.

An so it begins...

I need to get back into this game... I bought it at launch, but it just made me crave Distant Worlds: Universe so I gave up on it kind of quickly. I have since put in about 100 hours in DW and never looked back at Stellaris.

I really like Paradox's DLC strategy for major DLC. The asset packs are a different story though. I always feel like I'm getting nickel and dimed... just puts the assets in the major DLC releases.

$8 is a lot of money for what is essentially a skin. Even horse armor added more to Elder Scrolls than this does to Stellaris.
