There is only one reason we get video-sifted to death, and his name is Ant. :p So it seems pretty disingenuous to say that anyone is actually finding anything on videosift and they deserve to be supported "for the convenience". He posts youtube links TO videosift and then sends Blue the videosift link.
I don't really get the purpose of using videosift in the first place. Youtube already sorts and categorizes popular videos the same way that videosift does, except youtube doesn't drag up old videos from the grave and has a considerably larger audience voting on them.
It seems very hipsterish to me. Although he's never said it, I think this is partly how Ant makes his living. And anything that I can do to help Ant, I will do. He's one of the good guys. |

Yup, I despise Videosift, which offers no value to me and needlessly complicates the screen with additional videos and elements of constantly shifting sizes, but I'd asked Blue about it and his explanation for why he links there and his explanation is reasonable and honestly makes more sense than otherwise, given how he runs his site. |

That's exactly the site's use, to find videos. By curating the submissions via a voting system it highlights worthwhile clips. There are other sources for this type of service, but Ant's participation helped VideoSift become a fixture here. We could just pick from YouTube highlights, but those are all the most popular clips in the world. We have many of those already, so a smaller audience sometimes also helps find others.
If you don't want to or need to use such a service yourself, that's fine. Saying "I don't understand why" anyone would use it after getting it explained every time the topic comes up is starting to seem weird.
The solution to the VideoSift "problem" would be to submit alternative videos. Asking why over and over again just makes me worry that I need to further clarify something (so here I am).
And to follow the joking reference to monetization, we get the same generous compensation from everyone. VideoSift, YouTube, and all the sites linked in all the stories here pay a flat zero dollars per mention. Any site that doesn't submit a payment of nothing at the end of each month gets cut off immediately. The exception to this is our Amazon affiliation, our only commission program. This pays actual money on purchases there after you follow the Amazon link from here.
Does that settle this? |

Blue... did you not read the sentence literally right before the one you quoted?
I'm not saying that Ant (or anyone else) should stop submitting them, just saying that the claims below that the site is doing something useful and deserves the click-through traffic are unwarranted. I'm only talking about why videosift as a "service" is pointless and questioning why anyone uses it at all. I don't care who sent you this link or if you found it yourself, and I'm not blaming you for anything. If you actually use it to find stuff that's great, I just don't understand why :p |

This rabbit hole has gotten really strange. |

The "trending" tab on Youtube doesn't actually have anything to do with your filterbubble (you were probably thinking of the "recommended" section), but I get your point.
Videosift isn't really "sifting" and then spitting out good videos that people are then finding and linking to. It has far too small of a user-base for that. With so little foottraffic to videosift the reddit style up/down voting of videos doesn't really work... Unless I'm really reading things wrong, less than a dozen people vote on most videosift submissions... so only the submitters control what is "popular" on videosift through their own link-sharing.
I'm not saying that Ant (or anyone else) should stop submitting them, just saying that the claims below that the site is doing something useful and deserves the click-through traffic are unwarranted. It is unlikely that the "video" was actually found on Videosift in the first place. |

The links are sent you blues by people who use videosift to, you guessed it, find those videos in the first place. And unlike a youtube or your nsfwyoutube link, videosift is a dynamic link, meaning if the video is dead, the videosift link will always lead to the working version of that video, assuming someone on that site declared it non-working and had a replacement link added
So videosift is not useless Though if you are ip blocked to you it definitely is |
