Warhammer 40,000: Sanctus Reach Announced

Slitherine announces Warhammer 40,000: Sanctus Reach, a new turn-based strategy game based on the Warhammer 40K tabletop series. They note that Sanctus Reach features some of its most iconic races and characters and that gameplay will be "fast, immediate, deep, impressive to look at and incredibly fun." The game's Steam page is live, saying to expect this in November. You can get a quick glimpse of this in the teaser trailer, and there are more details in the announcement:
After the successful launch of Warhammer 40,000: Armageddon, Slitherine and Games Workshop renew their association to offer a brand new, 3D turn-based strategy game set in the Sanctus Reach. Featuring some of the most iconic races and characters from the Warhammer 40,000, Sanctus Reach is a fan beloved campaign and story from the universe.

Warhammer 40,000: Sanctus Reach brings players to a dark era of carnage and endless war. One of Imperium’s fiercest enemies, Grukk Face-Rippa, leads his Red Waaagh! in the Sanctus Reach system. Worlds after worlds fall to billions of Orks, until only one last planet resists the green tide: the Knight World of Alaric Prime. This is where a brave company of Space Wolves makes its stand to defend the last bastion of mankind in the system.

“Teaming up with Games Workshop for this thrilling project is testament of how well the partnership has worked out on Armageddon”, said Iain McNeil, Development Director at Slitherine. “Straylight are a very promising new development team that we are proud to work with. They bring not only passion and dedication, but a great deal of knowledge of the Warhammer 40,000 universe and that is an invaluable asset”.

The game is being developed by new born Scotland-based team Straylight Entertainment and will release before the end of 2016. This is the first game to be published using the brand new Archon engine, developed in house by Slitherine and made available to a number of its developers.

Warhammer 40,000: Sanctus Reach brings you to a dark era of carnage and endless war. There is no peace among the stars: the Imperium of Man is beset on all sides by all kinds of threats. Among them is the Orks, a barbaric and warlike xenos race. One of their fiercest leaders, Grukk Face-Rippa, leads his Red Waaagh! in the Sanctus Reach system. Worlds after worlds fall to billions of Orks, until only one last planet resists the green tide: the Knight World of Alaric Prime. This is where a brave company of Space Wolves makes its stand to defend the last bastion of mankind in the system...

Warhammer 40,000: Sanctus Reach is a 3D turn-based strategy game like you’ve never seen before: fast, immediate, deep, impressive to look at and incredibly fun! Lead the Space Wolves in their struggle against the Orks through two uncompromising and long story-driven campaigns: Stormclaw and Hour of the Wolf. Command several dozen different authentically crated units and heroes, each with unique and extremely detailed 3D models that bring the world of Warhammer 40,000 to life.

The gameplay is rich and varied: spend your points, make your list, choose your deployment, and fight! Units at your disposal have different abilities, strengths and weaknesses, can level up and are carried over between scenarios. Choose among many different types of weapons, watch your flanks and make wise use of the terrain: any tactical choice will be vital.

Gfx very basic. New studio, release date in few months, only 2 campaigns - red flags aplenty, looks more of a quick cash in with upcoming zillion DLCs than a serious W40K game.

Hopefully I`m wrong, Battlefleet was pretty cool...

Still skeptical GW would allow a PC game that plays like tabletop.

That was a pretty underwhelming teaser. But I'm excited to see where they go with the game. It doesn't take much to please me when it comes to WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH.

Well yeah but I doubt they were seeing a whole lot of that when they were whoring out the license to every incompetent indie iOS developer that asked. Vermintide, Battlefleet Gothik, Total War, Mordheim and Eternal Crusade are pretty good games with Deathwing and Dawn of War 3 in the near future which seem to be decent as well whereas iOS shitters seem to be taking a break.

That made me laugh for various reasons, the only thing GW gives a damn about is money Btw at 0:20 you can see space marines with glowing runes on their weapons.... is that lore friendly?

And grid based... sigh I wonder how THEY will manage to fuck up diagonal movement, not like we lack examples of that already.

Don't see any mention of Lordz Game Studio but my prediction is another Panzer General clone.

Wonder why Slitherine went with a square grid for their new engine? Have a look at the last screenshot. Perhaps squares are more iOS friendly?

Hmm, maybe someone is finally making a game that will play like tabletop?

I'm interested.

I actually thought they avoided allowing games to do this because it would effectively kill their table top market. Those little figurines are crazy expensive.

I hated painting them when i was younger so i would play with solid color army of imperial guardsmen...

I don't see iOS slapped anywhere on it so it's already better than 95% of the recent turn-based titles.

It's almost like Games Workshop is giving a damn again.

It's a bit early, and that teaser trailer is scant on gameplay of course, but color me intrigued.

Hopefully this turns out well, in an X-Com-y sort of way.
