BioWare Forums Closing

Saying it wasn't an easy decision, BioWare announces they are closing the BioWare forums effective August 26th. Their explanation of why they are making this move indicates the forums are redundant with today's social media, saying "there have never been more ways for us to connect." They note they don't even frequent their own boards as much as other sites' these days. Here's a bit:
Now we can travel around the world, meeting with you face-to-face at events like PAX, SDCC, and even shows in our own backyard. We can share stories with you on the go, giving you a look behind the scenes on sites like Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and Instagram.

In turn, you’ve built your own fantastic communities in places like Tumblr and Reddit. You’ve created comprehensive Wikis and countless pieces of fantastic art, fiction, and cosplay.

With so many great things so widely available, our developers today find themselves spending more time on other sites, and less time in our own forums. And to our fans and players who came to those boards looking to talk to us, it was a great disservice.

So it is with a heavy heart that we will close our public forums on August 26, 2016. We will maintain some private boards, and may use these in future for beta feedback or other special projects.

Because we know there is a lot of information on there you may want to keep, the public boards will remain in a read-only state until October 25, 2016. After that date, they will be taken down.

Clearly, shutting the forums down altogether is a MUCH better service to those of you who want to talk to us.

Also, how are people going to get support for your myriad of issues now, Bioware? Oh wait, the official EA support web page I'm guessing? *shakes head*

I have this worrying feeling you're doing this to head off another storm of fury when the next Mass Effect comes out, and we get to see why you've not been showing anything for it.

Why hire community managers when your customers will do it for free, right EA? People buy your games no matter what, right EA? That money will be better spent on marketing manager bonuses, or a 13 second teaser with Hollywood production values, hyping the crap out of your next polished turd and showcasing absolutely nothing of any real substance whatsoever.

I wonder what the person who wrote that sorry excuse of a press will care to remember it and bring it up at their judgement day.

I'm sure they just don't care to get slammed when people determine ME4 sucks worse than ME3. Plus, they will just offload the forum duties to EA's generic forums, which are moderated tightly to prevent any negative messages.

Exactly, why would Bioware not have a forum for bug reports and such? They think facebook, steam & reddit are going to take care of that for them? The flames will IGNITE. See you in Hell Bioware, lol!

Bioware died years back so it's only fitting they remove all traces of this failed company.
We need for all of the original members of BW to reform under a new name, and make the games that made them famous.

What, are they still butt hurt over the death threats because of ME3's identical endings. So now i gotta get a fakebook account to communicate w/em. f that.

It is more a combination of them being absolutely incompetent at managing their communities and them being lazy and wanting to save money.

They'll regret it down the road when fan communities form and they have no control over them. Then when they fuck up the community roasts them alive.

So tech support and bug reports now run over Twitter? LMAO

What a joke.. but not the good kind.

I guess as was already said, they now wanna push this job off to volunteer mods on Reddit...

A lot of companies have found they can save a little bit of money by closing their forums and firing their forum moderators. They rely on Steam and a game-specific subreddit with volunteer moderators to serve as their community.

Well, I can't exactly fault them for shutting those forums down. They have been a cesspool for at least a decade.

At any rate, it hardly matters; the 'real' Bioware is long dead/retired. This is just some EA studio now.

And none of those come close to the utility of a forum. Is there going to be a twitter tech support feed? Come on.
