I really wish they'd redo the Quake 1 in more modern graphics. Hell, even if it's a straight copy of the original. I know it's nostalgia driving my request but I never had more fun than Quakeworld and the original Team Fortress that came along later with it.

Agreed mate. Quake World and TF are still the top of the my most played games list... along with Ultima Online and Asheron's Call Darktide.

It's sad to see how dumbed down and generic gaming has become over the years.

An Arena shooter with champions? The quake guy shoots purple fireballs? What the fuck? iD has clearly lost all fucking memory of what made their multiplayer games cool.

I as well am most fond of the atmosphere in the first quake.

How about this then?

The spirit of the original games are brought into the modern era with the addition of four revealed Champions - Ranger, Visor, Nyx, and Scalebearer.

-addendum- Enjoy the frenetic pace of the original series with newly discovered Champions, realms and arenas in future installments with the Challenger Season Pass.

Yay!!!

but also brings the storied shooter into the modern era with the addition of Champions.

Huh?

Along with new insights into each of the four revealed Champions – Ranger, Visor, Nyx and Scalebearer

Oh crap, another "hero unit"-based MOBA.

Let's revisit that first sentence again:

Champions not only captures the spirit of the original games

In the original games, I am the one and only hero unit, rocket jumping around like a maniac. It is my abilities that make me a hero unit, not some game designer's "balance".

Not that it needs a 'story' but for whatever reason, even though the worlds were disjointed and somewhat confused, it had really cool environments etc. I was never against the FPS brown phase. I also really enjoyed Quake 2, I still play it today, 'coop or die', and would like another in that vein as well. Quake 4, while enjoyable, took itself a little too seriously I think.

I'd also like a disjointed chaotic sequel to quake 1 with rock solid multiplayer. This looks like garbage. Trend-following, trite garbage.

For me doom 2 multiplayer, quake 2 and quake 3 were both better than quake 1. Quake 1 was many peoples first encounter with multiplayer gaming but if you had been playing Doom 2, descent and duke nukem 3d on LAN's, quake 1 wasn't anything too special. Quake 1 was one of the first internet multiplayer games for the masses but other games were more fun multiplayer until quake2/quake3 hit.

That's because quake live is old quake. When quake live was announced I thought it was going to be a true quake 3 sequel - aka totally new graphics maps models, the works... they didn't do shit for quake live. They just repackaged Quake 3 and the original quake 3 with mods and level editing tools is superior to quake live.

All I want is more Quake, none of this MOBA bullshit. It's just trying to follow on the success of Overwatch. This game has fail written all over it, and that's coming from a die hard quake fan.

Of course, what can we expect from a company that releases Doom without deathmatch or private matches?
"Old Man Yells at Cloud"

It's not a MOBA, and neither is Overwatch. Is this a fad? Yes. Does that make it bad? No. Most people don't play old-school arena shooters anymore because as fun as they were, they're played out. There needs to be something more to it. You can't argue that point, because alot was added to them over the years, by their most dedicated fans, so clearly people thought they needed a little spice. Just about everything AAAs have tried in the past ten years was something a modder did first five years before that. Hell, Unreal Tournament was the poster child for this kind of thing. Every new version of the game featured some quirky new game mode as one of its most important selling points, and every one of those was something some guy hacked together themselves in the previous version.

Trendy stuff didn't kill your bunnyhopping rail parade. That died on its own because most people find it boring after a while without at least laying something on top of it to add some depth. Build a bridge and get over it.

Very few make it past a few months of real active players anymore. Gotta hit that jackpot or start grass roots somehow. The average good release doesn't get much play.

As far as this game, I was hoping for something more like Doom 2016, with a classical focus. Instead, we get FPS MOBA.
