WoW Pre-Expansion Patch

Battle.net has details on a new patch coming to World of Warcraft this week to pave the way for the upcoming legion expansion for the MMORPG. They say in the weeks leading up to the launch of Legion they will be unlocking even more content, and this is what the patch is adding for starters:
The Opening Salvo
When the pre-expansion patch initially goes live, players will be able to immediately access many of its key system-related features. Some of these major updates include:

Transmogrification Updates
The new Transmogrification Collections system will make it easier than ever to collect, store, and sort through the gear you want to use for transmogging—without taking up storage space in your inventory, bank, or Void Storage. As you collect items that can be used with the system, you can browse through them—as well as sort by class or slot—in the Appearances tab in your Collections interface.

Class Updates
We’re making some significant changes to classes and their specs for Legion to further strengthen their identities. The core changes to spells, talents, and more are going into effect as soon as the pre-expansion patch goes live. For more information on what’s new for each class and spec, read our earlier class preview blogs.

We’re also making it easier to switch between specializations for different content. Players will be able to queue up for dungeons, raids, Battlegrounds, or Arenas as any role that is available to their class, while continuing to play as another role while they’re waiting. When they enter the content they’ve queued for, they will automatically switch to the suitable role upon entering (at no cost) and then switch back automatically when they leave the instance.

I am excited somewhat about the new transmog system, but the class changes not at all. I am still working on my rogues skills and rotations, and now they are going to jumble skills up take away a few and add a few, yuk. I have yet to see an MMO skill rework that was a real major gameplay improvement, usually its just a mish mash of meaningless changes. In this case I think Blizz is determined to eventually release a console version so skills get trimmed, views standardized to be console compatible, etc.

Your comment confuses me... You're having trouble learning the 2 year old rotation, but Blizzard trimming skills is also a negative?

I suggest icy-veins.com for rotation/spec suggestions.. Good format, and if you can keep in mind they're only 95% correct, it's a great resource... Especially now that the core abilities tab in the spell book was removed... Which confuses the hell out of me ; )

What's the problem with Ret, precisely? I prefer the new rotation myself, but I couldn't comment on the numbers... Is it a numbers thing? Which would be tweaked if it's really an issue.

I don't think the developers knew what they wanted when it came to Paladin class fantasy from a Retribution perspective. The end result is a class without direction with changes for the sake of change. The talent tree is awful, the supporting role is hamfisted, the mastery is terrible and movement outside of Steed is nearly zero. I don't mind that it isn't whack-a-mole but it also feels as though the pendulum swung too far in the opposite direction which only makes the terrible talent tree even worse.

That's just my opinion though but I know many feel the same way. I was so certain that it would be my main for a very long time and then I tried it out in beta and immediately began looking for a new main. I just couldn't believe how much effort they put in to making Ret as awful as it is.

I settled on Enhancement not long after because it's the exact opposite of why I hate the new Ret.

God damn Ashbringer tax.

Is there a new level cap or is this just a content expansion?
The cap will go up 10 levels to 110, but not with this release. Basically this is getting the game on the expansion code without releasing the new content. It is a shake out cruise before they open up the new content.

Well... some of the new content is available, like the class changes. But not the new regions...

Blizzard better be prepared to meet Retribution and any Rogue players feedback. It's one thing to have it kept to some in beta but it's another thing when it's a live release and everyone can see just how bad they've wrecked certain specs and classes.

I can't put enough distance between me and my Ret Paladin out of fear that I might catch a disease.
