Out of the Blue

Okay, so there's something that's been bugging me since "Prime Day" debuted last year. Why isn't it today instead of yesterday, since today is 7/13, and both seven and 13 are prime numbers. If it was up to me, that's how it would have worked.

I really dislike Costco. I wish we had Winco Foods here instead. I love any business that's employee owned.

I'm interested to hear why you dislike Costco. They seem to be one of the better retailers out there, both from a consumer and employee perspective. Glowing articles about them abound.

Whoa. You should work for Amazon. You too can have the joys of 80 hour work weeks, and poor performance reviews for not answering your boss's email within five minutes at midnight.

You are complaining about 32C? Man up, man. That is not really all that hot. When it gets over 37C and your body is actually cooling down the environment, only then are you allowed to complain.

I pretty much missed out on prime day anyway thanks to my shitty ISP. I didn't get home until around 7pm and found my internet was out. Looking at my router log I could see that it went out just after 4pm. There had been a few short outages in the past week or so only lasting a few minutes to about an hour.

I had a problem a few months ago where my internet would go down right around 4pm and come back up around 7pm, almost as if it were on a schedule. This happened right after a storm knocked down utility polls, so I just figured they were working on it since it was so consistent. I put up with it for several days before calling back then.

This time I called the 24 hour support number to report the outage and the soonest someone can come out is tomorrow. My internet didn't come back online until around 10:30pm, and from the short time I had to look around, it doesn't look like I missed out on much from the Prime Day sale.

The last time it happened, the first tech came out and checked the signal on the poll and told me the signal was "too hot." The next day another tech was outside, up the pole and when they came down I asked if they were working on it and said they were just sent out to check the signals in the area and that it was "too high."

I was sitting at my desk when the cable modem finally lit up, so I checked its signal status page. I decided to find out what those numbers mean to see if it was the same problem. According to the status, my downstream signal and power levels are pretty damn good. The upstream power level is where I'm having a problem. The power level last night and right now is at 59.2dBmV. According to what I read, this shouldn't go above 50, and I'm lucky to be connected because anything above 57 means the modem is struggling to maintain a connection.

It's been 100f or so for the last week here in Austin, not to mention at least +5 heat index. So 105, not many people sitting outside eating for lunch now days. Now that college is out, most everyone just wants to stay floating down one of the local rivers. Sweatdrop

Costco is one of the most disorganized and terrible places I've ever tried to shop. Stuff is just laying around in piles all over the place and most of the shelves and top-stock make no sense.
