CS: GO Gambling Scam

This video calls out online gambling site CS:GO Lotto for deceptive practices, saying "CSGO has reached peak shadiness" in examining the hidden ownership of the site, following up on a previous video on the topic. They demonstrate that Trevor "TmarTn" Martin and Tom "Syndicate" Cassell, each followed by millions of users (presuming these users are real as well), are apparently the site's owners and operators. This is a fact neither disclosed while heavily shilling for the site, which allows players to gamble for Counter-Strike: Global Operations skins, and indirectly, cash, and there are videos of each showing surprise and elation when they "won" items through their own site. Eurogamer notes that attempts to visit the site through Steam now produce a scam warning, though arguably visiting a site that allows anonymous gambling over the internet should probably have triggered everyone's internal scam warnings in the first place.

Whoa, you really went on a wild "implying" tangent there, in response to a simple - and genuine (check the quantifier) - question.

Simple explanation on why abandoning the fed would be a good idea would suffice. However you struggle with that - the naive belief that everything would heal itself is not enough. Neither is proposing to "end the system in the right way". But what is the right way?

I`m not a fan of labels but if pressed I would stick with "radical leftie" - suppose I am sort of that, after all. But I also find people from "my" camp hugely infuriating: they`re mostly well-meaning but either have no plan for afters, or worse yet, start waving Ayn`s booklet around or cheering on Stalin/Castro or bringing up Alex Jones.

We cant` win this way, I`m afraid.

It wouldn't be an issue at all if there weren't idiots willing to pay large sums of money for a "rare" gun skin. Those idiots create the market these YouTube losers use to exploit, naive, or simply stupid people. I have mixed feelings on the subject. On the one hand, their fake support of a site that's actually their own site is criminal. On the other hand, I want to say "a fool and his money are soon parted."

Exactly. Anyone that ever collected baseball cards as a kid was doing the exact same thing. The outrage in this thread directed toward Gabe/Valve is just the same laughable bullshit that comes up in any thread that involves them.

Gabe Newell and Valve need to have their asses dragged through court and any and all ties to shady gambling sites tied to any of their games need to be severed. I like Steam. I generally like Valve, but this bullshit where they are making money via gambling using their games from underage kids is beyond sleazy.

I'm not sure if you read anything about this situation.... It *is* their problem. They are marketing a product to their target demographic....kids. It's no different than using Bugs Bunny to sell Wild Turkey to kids over the internet when you know there is no way to confirm ID. On top of that, they are pushing a site that they have a stake in with zero transparency. It is morally reprehensible and there are legal ramifications.

Hey well, everyone can read wikipedia or investopedia and become experts in mere minutes! Never mind they'd likely lose their shirt in 10 minutes of doing trades or something.

Anyway, there's a reason why in most countries there's a minimum age requirement for gambling(usually in the 17-21 range). And that's because it's known that gambling is a very easy trap to fall into and the chance of winning anything will reinforce the possibility of winning again. Really, these guys are likely in for a hell of a shock, since where they're operating out of...it's illegal without following the paper work. Similar to what several YTers discovered in running random draws, you in some cases need to escrow for the amount beforehand.

Anyway, this gambling shit is incredibly exploitative. I'm all for personal responsibility but at some point you have to put some level of protection in, or you incentivize companies to actively erode peoples sense of responsibility through psychological tricks and whatever else.

Yeah, so.. like in Venezuela? See.. the problem is what you define as a productive job isn't necessarily matching the list of "vital services a country needs to not go to shit"

Especially when you are totally dependent on food imports. (in case of Venezuela, also oil exports)

Nah, the youtubers just understand Advertising 101. Nothing desplochable about it.

Did you watch the video? So outright lying to your customers (who are mostly underage) is Advertising 101? Getting them to gamble on the site you own by faking your winning streak is also OKAY in your book?

I won't ask you what you think about making fun of someone over the internet for a stupidly simple spelling error, that part is obvious.

To be fair, it's really not their problem if kids are gambling online, in any form. That's an issue with parenting in the home. Like any other internet casino site, they stipulate in the terms of use that minors aren't allowed to participate and that's as far as their responsibility goes.

I thought I'd posted about this in the past, but I couldn't find it in my history.

I saw YouTube video of someone opening weapon cases and when I realized he had paid money for them my immediate reaction was, "Wow, what a scam." Now, I didn't really think it was a scam, I just thought it was stupid for people to buy these weapon cases for a chance at a weapon skin. Didn't realize there was any "gambling" going on.

Yep we'll all live on a farm, pay no taxes and grow our own food. Who needs those things like society and economies? When the government comes calling we will form a unique squad to deal with them, lets call it MILITIA!
