Steam Summer Picnic Sale Underway

As expected, the Summer Sale is now underway on Steam, or as they're calling this year's installment the Summer Picnic Sale. We can probably find more details when an announcement rolls in, but in the meantime, we can see that there are the usual discounts to be had, and this year's side game involves getting three free trading cards each day. Initial sales are for things like LEGO games for 30-75% off, the Arma franchise for 20-80% off, and the Call of Duty franchise for 50-67% off. Update: The announcement of this is now online:
The Steam Summer Sale has started! For the next 11 days*, take advantage of discounts on thousands of products, including games, videos, and software, as well as the exclusive Summer Picnic Sale trading cards.

Great comparison? Bits of data don't have material value which significantly varies from region to region. It's a god-awful comparison.

Not when you're talking about a luxury product which nobody NEEDS to survive. Food...not so much on the same level.

Also, if you read the articles, they are mixing legit keys in with fraudulently obtained ones. That's supporting black market business and fraud there.

So what are you guys buying, if anything?
I got Sniper Elite 3 and some DLC for CoH2
Most other games that are on sale and I was interested in I either already own or are not on sale.

I was thinking about grabbing Blitzkrieg 3 but I guess that is one of those always online titles or something?
Mixed reviews doesn't give me the warm and fuzzy about it.

Project Cars DLC isn't on sale either, wtf

If you can afford a submarine while the other guy is stuck with an egg, you can afford to quit bitching about regional pricing. X D

The point was simply that regional prices are based upon regional cost of living. For example, ever wonder why homes in San Francisco go for millions of dollars for sub-1000 sq/ft where you go two states over in any direction and the same square footage is like a thirds of the price at worst?

Stellaris did *just* come out. Give 'em at least a month to make their money back.
Stellaris is 20% off on GMG with a coupon code. They've had another promo going on just recently for 25% off.

Virtually all of mine are only 10% off. I don't see a single game I want at a sale price I deem fair atm. And G2A is still crushing most of those prices.

Don't buy off of G2A if you can stand it. There was an article on here a few days ago, many stolen credit card rings are buying game keys and reselling them on G2A, and G2A doesn't seem to be doing much at all about it.

More on topic: I may have reached peak Steam ownership for awhile, no good sales on my wishlist at all at the moment.

I saw the article too, but wasn't it sort of speculation? It just seemed like something the RIAA drm, PR people try to push to justify all their lawsuits.

I don't think it's wild speculation. The developer was able to pick a key and show that it was bought off the Humble Store and sold below the buying price. The only place you can buy anything cheaper than G2A is "pay what you want" bundles; other than that they beat everyone. G2A's retailer fraud protection is a paid service. I see a lot of room for doubt.

And I feel like if G2A were legitimately trying to stop fraud, they'd have some pretty big busts under their belt by now. If I were a no-goodnik, I think I'd certainly try this avenue to launder stolen credit cards. As long as there are ton of Cutters out there, G2A has every incentive to do nothing to stop fraud, and no one else would be in a position to stop evil-me.

I think this is correct. The owner was very dicey in his answers to questions, saying that even vague metadata was "confidential" (lol, yeah right). Also couldn't provide much information on anything except a few choice topics and they don't seem to care about fraud much. I'll stick to legit game retailers over these grey market sites where you have to pay extra money to make sure you get a key that might work, or the key is declined due to fraud.

Well, based on previous issues with G2A and stolen credit card-purchased game keys, and this more recent set of events I think I'm done with G2A, but each to his own.

At this point I am leaning towards paying a bit more on Steam or Gog or even some of the more reputable key resellers on isthereanydeal.com or something, and trying to avoid G2A and some of the sketchier ones, for the sake of game developers.
