I tried many times to get into Bard's Tale. I couldn't. Found it to be a pale imitation of the great game that was Alternate Reality.

Holy crap! Someone who played AR! Yes, that was a freaking amazing game(s). Too bad the series never made it past the second module.

Thank you! Awesome! Yes very sad they never got another game out. Did you know in 2001-ish they were trying to make an MMO version? Nothing much came of it except some concept artwork and music remixes (which are great).

Yes The City was amazing. The original A8bit version of course. I loved how immersive it was and there was often a great sense of danger, especially at night! Also loved the loot and potion system which sadly has never been done like that were you can taste it and the color/texture gives you a good idea what is it.

By '87 I was fully on board with the Amiga and was waiting for it to come to that but as we know that was canceled. Did get the Amiga version of The City which was nice but IIRC it did lack some of the depth of the A8 version. Great music on both platforms!

Nice to meet you here Drayth.

Make sure you read the official post in forums on how to download the actual DC version. Otherwise you will get the non DC version.

Oh sweet, I didn't realize it had mods. Thanks man!

I downloaded it, but based on these comments, just going to delete it.

I quite liked the DC. It pretty much to me is what I expected.

I thought it met it's goals well...

Might as well give it a whirl...isn't this game like 30-40GB?

Try it before you do so. You might find yourself liking the game.

I for one enjoyed playing it.

I was a $100 backer, mostly because I spent so much time with Wasteland and the BT series back in the day. I struggled with the difficulty of the original release, and consoled myself with the thought that the game was being true to its heritage. So I waited. When the Director's Cut came out, I started over, and got wiped -- hard -- on my very first random encounter in the desert. I haven't played since. It's just not balanced well. It has made me sad that I never finished a game which I paid that much money for, but I see I'm not alone in finding it un-fun. I'm intrigued about the Nexus mods. I may have to check out that scene.

Yeah, was not impressed. I'd rate it maybe a 3/10. No one is missing anything skipping this.

Has the combat improved any in the Director's Cut? Anyone know. I focused more on combat skills versus usage skills in my playthrough, which meant by the time I went to California I had all combat skills at 10, and all usage skills at like 6-7. (and of course, EVERY.SINGLE.FUCKING.LOCK / safe / whatever in California is level 10+. Bullshit)

It made the combat in California such a boring slog. There was no tension in battle, as I knew I would win anyway, since my guys basically missed one shot in a thousand, but every battle had these absolute hordes of enemies, each with like 400 health. It got soooooooooooo BORING.
