It's time for another adventurous Summer Sale! Join us for two whole weeks and lie by an ocean of game premieres and 1000+ deals, gather XP to unlock free games, and participate in summer activities! It's seriously the neatest one yet.
System Shock 2 is free for the first 48 hours to help us improve the GOG Galaxy client with a stress test giveaway. If you want to help out (and score a freebie), simply download GOG Galaxy, visit your experience page through the client, then claim and download your free game.
We'll have more and more deals for you every 24 hours as the 2016 Summer Sale marches on – and the deals will stick around until the end — starting with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (-50%), Rebel Galaxy (-50%), and Day of the Tentacle Remastered (-33%) as well as bundles including X-Wing and TIE Fighter, D&D Gold Box classics and more. Come, or stay, but do look out for more awesome deals and game premieres!
Collect XP to earn free games
This is the really cool part – check in every day, participate in activities to collect badges, and buy stuff during the sale to earn XP. As you progress, so will your Summer Sale hero, plus you'll unlock free games: Spelunky, Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers – 20th Anniversary Edition, and Dreamfall Chapters Season Pass.
GOG Plays on Twitch.tv/GOGcom
Join us for the grand Twitch plays event and help achieve greatness in Stardew Valley and Grim Fandango Remastered. For every challenge we complete everyone will get an extra XP boost. The first, Stardew Valley, event begins Thursday, June 9, at 4:00 PM UTC – where you will be tasked with the greatest feat of all: to plant a Parsnip. It's going to be all kinds of ridiculous.
We'll be streaming great games all sale long too, so check out the schedule and tune in!

Is that all the badges, stuff they are going to offer during the sale? I've done everything and started checkin, I'm at 3000 XP, and it will top out at like 4000 XP by completing the check in stuff. Not enough to earn even the first earnable free game at 5k. I see purchasing gives lots of XP, so is this more of a "buy stuff to get XP and get a bonus game or two along the way" type sale?
Glad system shock 2 was free without doing anything though.

I don't have the DLC's yet, and not sure when I'll end up getting them. Should they be completed after the main game? Or are they more like a go-ahead-and-do-it-whenever-you-want kind of thing?
Ditto. Would a new playthrough be encouraged at all with the DLC packs?

Lord Tea wrote on Jun 9, 2016, 03:17:Its a little more complicated that that IME. Unless its changed, some games have been updated for gog that have never been updated on Steam. A lot of the Lucasarts games for one, you also dont need to be online to play most games. You can download a offline install for anything off gog which is someting that steam just doesnt offer. handy for installing to another machine without redownloading.
Yes, and since sales seem to be generally 10-20 percent more expensive on GOG than on Steam AND game support is waaaaaaay worse on GOG I've been ignoring GOG sales for quite some time. Examples:
Rebel Galaxy is now $11.39 on GOG, it was $9.99 on Steam a couple of days ago.
Certain games don't get updated on GOG. I've been waiting for the latest patch for Starpoint Gemini 2 on GOG and I still am. Even the developers say Steam is the "first priority platform"...

This sale shows how overpriced GOG has become. Or maybe indie gaming in general? Everything under 5 quid has been like that already for ages, the rest is still fairly dear.
Also I guess I will never get used to the fact that you can come out and ask 40 pounds (60 bucks?) for a digitally downloaded product. It`s madness.

SOMA on sale, I may finally pick that up. Stay away from Twitch though, Gog!![]()
I dislike Twitch, but honestly that's probably a very smart move, tons of people seem to love those type of streams now.
