Imagine if you walked into your local supermarket and wanted to buy a box of your favorite cereal. But they won't sell you one box, they want you to sign up for a subscription, of one box a month, plus a shopping cart full of groceries you don't want, food you hate, and crappy quality junk food you would never buy on your own. All of this for 10 to 20 times what a single box of cereal would cost.

Cable companies steal and rob, so I don't have much sympathy when the circle comes around and bites them.
This post is problematic on a few levels.

1. To follow your analogy, it's perfectly fine to go to the back of the store and swipe a few boxes of cereal while they're unloading the truck and not looking. Thing is, you'd never have the stones to do that. And we wonder why content companies keep resorting to ridiculous bullshit like DRM and copyright infringement settlement letters.

2. Let's look at the cost that you claim, "All of this for 10 to 20 times what a single box of cereal would cost."
- Price of a season of GoT on disc: $43
- Price of a season of digital episodes: $39
- Price of HBO Now during the run of GoT: $45
HBO Now costs a few dollars more and lets you watch "live." And who knows, maybe you'll find a few other shows you like: Deadwood, The Wire, Boardwalk Empire, John Oliver, Rome, etc., all shows with massive critical and popular acclaim. Hard to imagine the only thing HBO offers that you enjoy is GoT.

3. "Cable companies steal and rob, so I don't have much sympathy when the circle comes around and bites them." You do understand that HBO is not a cable service provider like Comcast right? And that you don't need a cable subscription to order HBO Now? And I'm unaware the last time HBO stole from and robbed its customers. Links?

Do none of you have access to HBO Now where you live? If you like these shows so much why not pay for them?
I do, I live in Caldas Novas, 25 or so miles from any actual city. Brazil. No HBO here. Do you feel like an asshat now?
Anyways, just use a Russian proxy, Encrypted connection, impervious to any of this horseshit.

I don't feel like an asshat at at all, that's why I was asking. If HBO isn't making Now available in your region, that's on them. And while Beamer's BRD post has a point, HBO makes the BRDs available nearly a year later. While I don't condone piracy, I can hardly blame you. That's a long time to wait for a show that everyone is talking about and for which hearing spoilers could completely ruin it.

If you live in the USA, though, I don't understand why you wouldn't get HBO Now instead of pirating.

That's just making an excuse to not properly pay for the show you want to watch. Can't watch it live? Too bad, wait for physical media releases. Your impatience doesn't make it OK to steal things.

Bub's arguement is the same exact bullshit too. You can just buy the one show you want to watch, you don't have to buy a subscription to HBO anymore or be limited by your ability to get it in your area.

I can understand the need to watch it immediately. If there's no legal way to do so, I can understand people going around it. There is HBO in Brazil, but I guess not if you live in the middle of nowhere.

But, in that case, I think that you have a bit of an obligation to buy the bluray at the first opportunity, and I doubt many do that.

I don't feel like an asshat, because there are still Blu-Ray releases of the show.

do you know how to fucking read?

I think he does but your opinion is a bit confusing. If HBO creates a show that you enjoy (like GoT), why wouldn't you want them to continue making shows that you enjoy? If you hated everything they make, your opinion would make sense. But apparently you don't..?

Or you could just you know...pay the $15 a month to HBO so they have funds to make more shows like GoT.

I got an honest to god copyright infringement email for downloading Game of Thrones a couple weeks ago. I have HBO but I would download an extra copy for my mother to take home on USB so she's caught up as well.

From what I understand, I can pretty much trash the email without worry but I'll see if I can show her how to use streaming sites with an ad-blocker in place since I don't have On Demand without wrangling a network cable across the house or GO for when she wanders over from time to time.

yep - GoT always does this...

got about 3 of em before I got fed up... my ISP doesnt give a shit about it, they will send you dozens and dozens and not blink an eye

you can download it via the filesharing sites like rapidgator/uploaded/etc. and its untraceable but usually they want a paid account

far easier to pay for a VPN and funnel your torrents thru there... makes it untraceable

but yeh, ive been using the streaming sites too because im not super needy for an HD version... btw "openload" tends to have best quality most of the time..
