Homefront: The Revolution Released

Homefront: The Revolution is now available in North America for Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, offering a first-person shooter sequel set in an occupied U.S.A. Word is: "This epic first-person shooter with a 30+ hour single-player campaign is set in Philadelphia in the year 2029, where independence and democracy as we know it today no longer exists. The online co-op Resistance Mode (which supports up to four players on a team) offers a new guerrilla warfare gameplay experience. Get ready to help America rise again." You can take a look at the game in this trailer, and here's word on the release and plans to support it with additional free and paid content:
Deep Silver and Dambuster Studios today proudly announce the release of their new epic first person shooter, Homefront®: The Revolution.

Available today in North America and May 20th throughout the rest of the world, players will be able to immerse themselves in this truly unique story-driven shooter. Taking the role of a resistance fighter that is outgunned and outmatched, fight to liberate Philadelphia from oppression and its occupying forces.

"With Homefront: The Revolution, we deliver a reboot of the Homefront IP, a brand new open world shooter game with asymmetric, guerilla warfare. Not only that, we also deliver with it a deep story about defending our values, defending our country, defending our society, and that is as current as it can be," said Dr. Klemens Kundratitz, CEO of Koch Media.

Revealed today are also further details on the Expansion Pass. The Homefront: The Revolution Expansion Pass includes access to the three single-player campaign expansions. It also unlocks exclusive bonuses for use in Homefront's online co-operative experience, 'Resistance Mode.'

Coming in 2016, The Voice of Freedom and Aftermath will both add new districts and several hours of original single-player content that complement Homefront's huge 30-hour campaign. A much larger expansion - Beyond the Walls - will follow in 2017, with more details to come.

Expansion Pass holders also benefit from these Resistance Mode perks:

  • 'Supply Line' entitles players to a FREE Resistance Crate each week, just for logging into Resistance Mode
  • 'The Right Kind of School' unlocks three new starting backgrounds for your Resistance Mode character: 'ATF Agent', 'G-Man' and 'U.S. Marshall'

In addition to the epic 30-hour single player campaign, Homefront's online co-operative 'Resistance Mode' will launch with six Missions, with the first set of new Missions set to arrive in June. All additional Resistance Mode missions will be FREE, and Dambuster Studios are committed to delivering high quality added content updates for the first year at no extra cost.

I still can't get over the stupid setting. I mean North Korea occuping the USA? How could this even be remotely possible?

By 2016 the US had turned to socialism and by 2020 it was a complete failed state much like so many socialist countries before, after much civil unrest and rioting China sends in North Korean proxy armies to establish order from the ruins.

They put out extensive background to the reason why North Korea had turned in to a superpower via technology in the lead up vids, it's an alternate history.

I'm guessing you'd complain because Wolfenstein isn't an accurate recollection of WWII?

Wrong, on all accounts. That movie was butchered and changed. It was originally China set as the main enemy and invader. But it was changed during shooting of the movie because of some bullshit politically correct bullshit to not piss off China, well fuck China. they can all go fuck themselves!!.

Are you speaking of the remake? As the original was all Russian and always was... though some searching suggests they removed the possibility of China appearing in the remake. Funny though as in the original China was a ally of the US but was crippled along with Britain and others so they could not assist the US.

The same way it is possible that the Reapers invade in Mass Effect

Fantasy

lol well it can be played on the very least the shooty shooty bits.

Like I said in the past though, one could just use their imagination and "pretend" the enemy is .gov instead. I read some reviews that some rebel characters are mega-stereotypes or borderline pyschos advocating torture of any North Korean. As someone who has read quite a bit into the covered up truths of the Korean War history, the premise of the setting in this is just that, pure ahistorical wankfest/fantasy.

But eh, there's always the shootyshooty bits that looks to be an entertaining distraction.

The shooty shooty bang bang gun play is more like guerilla warfare where you mainly focus on ambushes with an emphasis on hit and run as it's fairly unforgiving. I'm sure this alone will turn a lot of people off but I too have heard it being compared to Far Cry.

I bought the game. Played about an hour so far, it's not bad at all. The way you progress through the game is very similar to Far Cry 4. There are lots of things to do on each map. The biggest thing though is that you are very easily killed. The game does not reward you for taking the enemy on face first.

Replace North Korea with China and the premise of the game becomes more plausible - although in reality I'm sure that the USA is not stupid enough to become dependent on any nation or technology for their existence. But, whatever, it's a game. The shooting is solid and that's what matters.

And I can't get over the very tight limitations of the yank brain which appears to be incapable of understanding the artistic liberties of a FICTIONAL setting. As a non-yank it is extremely amusing to observe how y'all react to such a hypothetical invasion of your country as if some chick just gave you a handjob, slipped and ended up fisting yer asshole.

Hilarious. It really is a fascinating glimpse into the abyss of the American psyche which seems to be so self-absorbed in its patriotic nationalism that even a totally fictional crisis seems like an impossible thought. Then again y'all are about to make Donald Duck a presidential candidate. Or was it Trump? Or Duck? Who cares? Same comedic act basically...

Yeah. Fascinating. Consider moi stunned and amazed.

Red Dawn?!?, my teacher back then brought the movie in to class and had us watch it... Then he asked the Russian kid what he thought about the movie, and he instantly said, the russians would never be able to invade the like that... that was common sense

Forget the premise, that's the least of the game's problems, if that even is one.

The premise would work much better if the revolution happened against a fake government controlled by corporate overlords and megabanks. Something along the lines of a large scale Occupy protest being crushed by troops, tanks and flamethrowers and then simply take it from there....
