Got Stellaris, but its way too much. The tooltips are nice and everything but the interface is still to hardcore, they throw you in the deep end. In my second minute of playing the game, not knowing shit and waiting for my science ship to explore my home system. I clicked on an AI ship on the edge of my system and got completely lost. No way to go back to home planet. And clicking around on everything to find a simple button like "home" or whatever got completely fucked up, since I managed to access and turn on systems that I have no idea how to use or exit. Also the race creation is clearly broken. I tried to do a warlike mammalian race that just wants to eat the universe and the trait system is completely broken, had to actually cheat the system to allow the game to let me create the race I wanted. Strange bug wouldnt allow me to progress to the game start UNLESS I did that. Weird.

Ill come back to it a few patches down the line, right now I don't feel like going through the dregs of youtube to find a decent tutorial where the guy playing doesn't come off sounding like a complete know-it-all asshole.

Also DOOM is awesome, much better than I thought it would be. Taking it slow, just got into the first level of Hell...:)

I'm a sucker for 4x games, and so far with 36 hours played (over the span of 2 games played) its the spiritual successor to MOO2. If you loved MOO2, liked GalCiv2, etc then this is a must buy.

Stellaris looks like it might be interesting, anyone here given it a spin yet?

The 3MA guys love it while in the same breath say it's half baked.

Instead of Stellaris, people could also check out Star Ruler 2 and its expansion.

One of the best 4x space RTS games out there with epic scale, interesting diplomacy and oh...little things like building ring worlds and artificial planets, cap ships of ridiculous scale, blowing up whole star systems and creating black holes.

Just saying...

That looks good, I'll add that to the list. I jumped on Stelaris though because my collection of "Games like Master of Orion" is already too big and I didn't really enjoy even the ones that were meant to be good. Stelaris is hella fresh. Maybe thin and broken in places but it's a very different take on 4x. And because it's real time there is no "One more turn!" it's just a never ending stream of management issues and fear. Some people say the AI is too passive, but I'm not so sure. I think they are just doing the calculation where going to war against anyone who isn't super inferior to you is suicide because once your fleets are not at home you are open for a beating.

It feels like a 10x slower version of Sins of a Solar Empire. Not a bad thing at all.

Star Ruler 2 is not fast paced while still being all real time. And one of the things not apparent about it is that you can beat empires that are bigger and badder than yours by using diplomacy to do things like annex their planets, systems and artifacts by raising a vote in the galactic senate. If you are successful, the property gets ceded to you. No war declared.

You can pull crap like filibusters, use leverage against other empires or even screw them over by getting a vote passed that allows all other empires to see all their territory as if everyone had spy drones in each of their systems.

Lots of stuff to explore and discover in the galaxy and lots to keep you busy even if you're not at war.

Yes. I'm at about hour 15 (I restarted at hour 6). It starts out easily enough, but the difficulty ramps up fast. I'm not necessarily talking about AI difficulty (that too), but there's things you do early in the game that can really fuck you up later. If you plan on playing, read up a bit first. There's a good thread going over on reddit where a lot of questions are answered.

I'm enjoying it. It reminds me of Sins of a Galactic Empire, which I also loved, only with a lot more complexity. I should be playing it now but there's some systems I want to figure out before I bugger up another game. Plus I've heard late game is full of bugs, so I may just wait for some patches to hit before I continue.
Cool, thanks. I'll read up some, maybe wait for a couple of bug patches to come out...

Damn, didn't really have the money, but would liked to have gotten in on a deal like that...

should be renamed to "Top Ten Bestselling Store Pages"

because if it was actually "Titles", it wouldnt count twice or 3 times because its the same fucking "title"

Guess they are using separate codes, for each deal and package. Then their listings are based on individual code income.

It probably happens when they have a pre-order deal going on, like with DOOM giving you a Wolfenstein game, too.

Why are they even adding pre-orders as their own spot anyways?
