Anecdotal posts like that are exactly why they have attempted to remove this upgrade decision from as many users as possible. You think you know better because you've been lucky in the past, but you have no clue what kind of risk you are actually putting your data in.

It's classic confirmation bias. This is the same stupid argument people make about not installing A/V software on their computers.
"I've never been infected" How the fuck do you know?! Not all infections are of the "popups and crashing programs" variety (and haven't been since the 90's).

A little "phone home" for telemetry (or data processing in Cortana's case) VS. a massive security risk by using an unpatched OS... yeah... nice decision you made there. I mean... How stupid do you have to be to actually think that your data is somehow safer on an unpatched computer?!

It`s called a roadmap, not a conspiracy. Doesn`t make it any less douchey.

And I couldn`t care less about lack of updates. I was on XP up to early last year, somehow it didn`t cause some twisted continuum syndrome, not even a major virus situation.

The only reason for eventual upgrade would be some new AAA games requiring the new OS. In that case (very far off) I will sandbox it to hell and back though, seeing as it likes to call mum and dad.

It was 1/2 joke and 1/2 worry. If they stop patching it's not a force upgrade. It's just with all the crap they pulled on win10 it's not hard to expect something like this.

No problem from MS's view. They will force the upgrade then after upgrade will prompt you to pay or else it will go into limited time trial, then expired mode.

They've done all sorts of other douche moves around win 10, I'm expecting them to do a few more.
