Out of the Blue

I'm really looking forward to tonight's season premiere of Game of Thrones. Apparently there are many who are, but you wouldn't know it from my circle, as I don't know of a single friend or family member besides me who watches the show. And my friends who read the books are the most adamant about not watching, as they basically hate it. So spring is here, and winter is coming, but I have no one to discuss the show with. On the bright side, I don't have to worry about spoiling anything for anyone. Hodor!

Game of Links: Thanks Ant and Acleacius.
Play: Orbital Survival.
Icesters Trouble.
Science: Solar-powered plane completes journey across Pacific Ocean. Thanks HARDOCP.
Media: GAME OF HYRULE. NSFW.
A Gorgeous, Unusual View Of New York City From Above. Thanks nin.

the producers said this season is "lighter" watever that means

also, probably only about 26 episodes left in the entire series, rumor has it that the last 2 seasons will be only 6 episodes

I don't understand why people that read the books would hate the TV series.

Yea, there's some stuff that doesn't follow the books, but the big parts are all spot on. Stuff like the scene between the viper and the mountain could not have been better.
I haven't read the books and probably won't, but that fight is the most brutal thing I've ever seen. I doubt the graphic ending will ever leave my memory. There are a lot of scenes in the show that are hard to watch, but that was just so shockingly violent. I guess it shows that I'm not completely desensitized to violence despite playing tons of violent games and watching tons of violent movies.

I've watched 3 seasons of GoT, and I've kind of lost interest. It's just so bleak. And all the best characters are either dead or scattered to the winds.
I finished up to the 5th season, and I felt like Season 5 was the bleakest one yet. The end of Season 3 came close though. I don't know about George RR Martin since I haven't read the books, but the TV producers seem to be sadists to me. I hope Season 6 is more enjoyable than 5; besides the bleakness that I have come to expect by now, some of the stories just seemed to fizzle out poorly.

I think I'll wait until Season 6 is about half done before I start.
Possible spoilers: I don't even care about spoilers that much since I know the show is just going to kill anyone I like even a little bit. I also think I need a little break from watching anyone half-decent getting killed horribly. Maybe this time around we'll see a few of the assholes killed for a change.

Well yeah. They know they will never to finish the story, unlike the TV watchers.

Very true Also it's even more relevant because the show is, by far, the best fantasy TV series ever made. If someone hates this show then it is for many things, but not because it exists when the books do too ,)

And having read and watched this, books and show are imo 2 different paths of entertainment...

And don't claim any sort of 3D Space Sim is 'YOUR GAME' because it actually belongs to Creston (just easier to smile/nod/grin and walk away slowly without making eye contact).

LOL. Damn straight!!!

Welcome.

Don't feed the trolls (but it's sometimes ok to throw bread at Cutter). Don't go into nin's van. And don't claim any sort of 3D Space Sim is 'YOUR GAME' because it actually belongs to Creston (just easier to smile/nod/grin and walk away slowly without making eye contact).
And as 'the new guy' you have to bring booze and munchies to the next meeting.

Hogwash, sir! A good program is just as entertaining. It's not like there isn't a sea of tripe in the written words as well, more in fact. Right now, I'm watching a documentary on history of Hinduism, and one on the Ottomans after that. Fascinating.

So what time does it go on streaming (hbo go)? Is it once it ends on the broadcast?

(after the end of the last season) This is the first season I'll be watching as it unfolds, instead of binging it once it finishes...

edit: less than an hour away, it looks like
