New Borderlands Confirmed

Gearbox has confirmed at PAX East that a new Borderlands game will be their next project after Battleborn, reports Eurogamer, though the quote they provide from Gearbox's Randy Pitchford doesn't say that exactly, only that "It's no secret, obviously there's going to be another Borderlands." He also says they aren't sure if the next installment in the shooter series will be called Borderlands 3 or Borderlands 4 (they've apparently ruled out Post-Pre-Sequel), and with Battleborn still in the works, there's no time frame yet for when to expect this. Word is writing chores will be handled by Mikey Neumann who wrote the first Borderlands game.

Loved BL1, BL2, and most of the DLC for those.
That prequel thing pretty much sucked though.

Insects, and those snake like things that I can't remember the name of. There were also quite a few flying things.

I didn't play much of the first Borderlands so I don't know how it stacked up to the second title in regards to the writing quality of Mikey Neumann but Anthony Burch really made the second title an amazing treat.

The story in the 2nd one was ten times better than the first one...

Cool, but they need to shake the gameplay up. More powers to use, more different builds, and please do something about the "billions of guns!" shit that means you use the same five guns over and over, just with minor little stat changes on them.

And for the love of God, fix your fucking drop rates. The sad thing about BL2 was that it HAD dozens of really cool guns, but nobody ever saw them because they were rare Legendaries, and thus they dropped like 0.00000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001%.

I wonder if they'll add more than 3 enemies to this one. Let's see.. it was humans (some short humans too), those dog things, and some robots. Did I get them all? Maybe they could buy some pre-made ones on the Unreal store.

I burned out of Borderlands. The oxygen thing and gravity was too gimmicky, IMO. Not enough enemy types. The inventory interface was shit. And yeah, a gazillion weapons, but you're stuck using your level 3 weapon you got 10 hours ago.

BL2 on the other hand, had an actual story, that was more than just "Go to planet, find vault, open vault" that was the gist of the first one. The main thing however with BL2, was just the sheer brilliance that went into the dialog between the npcs and the characters. So many lines went on to be well known things all over the net, even by people who didnt ever play borderlands.

Yep. It sticks out like how the same narrative stuck on in System Shock 2. I feel BL2 is a mix of Diablo/SS2 game mechanic wise and that is a good mix in general.

The writers for the pre-sequel didnt really get it though, as the game was kinda meh. It had a story, but it really lacked the talent that went into making the NPCs just a blast to listen to.

Surprisingly, Telltale games comes along, and its like they totally understood what made BL2 great. Their game (tales of the borderlands) nailed it. Great story and great dialog.

I kinda worry for the next borderlands, if the person from the first game is the one leading the story for it.

I agree with all of this.

Yeah, the writing of 2 really stood out, and was a riot at times. Claptraps quest in particular had me laughing my ass off.

Because the allusion was that Pandora was just like Australia's first hundred years or so. Prison colony cut loose to survive on its own. It was very shoddily done.

They would have to back to the Chris Roberts school of design and actually only sell Pictures of what the game should look like instead of trailers of what the game should look like.

Yeah, Tiny Tina's DLC was awesome... but the other DLC's were craaap.

Hopefully they make some changes to 3, was starting to get a little burnt out in the end, and skipped the prequel for that reason.

i've played around 150+ hours of Pre-sequel, then went back to BL2 and it's night and day... BL2 is so much better in every way. the jokes tend to be lame. and who the fuck calls themselves "pickle"? so stupid

BL1 and BL2 were enjoyable. The first because the novelty of it and because, obviously, Claptrap. The second because it was like getting in to an old pair of slippers. The pre-sequel though, turned me right the fuck off. The accents, more than anything, grated on my ears. I'm okay with the Aussie accent but not for every single fucking character (very nearly). I blame Leigh Diffy for that.

even with subtitles i couldn't understand some of the Australian dialect going on there

i can see where the devs are based in, but why the whole game has to be Australian?

How many gatrillion guns that are all worthless except for 8 will they have this time?

Never did finish the Pre-squeal, and really have no desire to go back to Pandora or anything Borderlands related without some serious overhauls.

Played the shit out of BL1 & 2 (150 hours or more in each, I'd have to check). But was burned out when Pre-Sequel came out and haven't played it. One thing the first one did better than the second was gun randomization. Felt like you got a much wider range of stats, whereas in 2, the guns all felt too samey: SMGs always had a cyclic rate of 10-12, assault rifles 8-10, etc. In BL1, I got a crazy fun machine pistol with a cyclic rate of 20 or so, never saw anything like that in BL2.
